53grn v-max & 223

I have a remington sps tac i picked up a few years ago that I've been tinkering with. It has a 20", 1-9 twist barrel. I'm wanting to try out the Hornady 53grn v-max in it. I'm not so concerned with blistering speed as i am with the smallest groups i can get. The Nosler book lists Benchmark as their accuracy load. That is my usual go to 223 powder. I'm just curious what you guys use.

Thanks
Matt

I'm using RL-10x in my 1/9 twist .223 Savage model 12. I'm getting very good accuracy. I only wish I could get a bit more velocity
as I'm only getting about 3050 fps. I will always take accuracy over speed though.

I use ramshot Tac with the 53gr vmaxs out of a 12 twist. They shoot very well. Kills coyotes and other critters with ease.

I got dime size groups at 100 yds in a RAR 8t 22" with Nosler 55g FBHP and 23.0 of Varget. No chrony so the fps is unknown other than what the Nosler website says

Do you have some heavier bullets? If so, take full advantage of that 1/9 twist. I shoot 53-55 gr pills from a 1/12 that is so nasty accurate. Heavier bullet may provide you great range. For paper at extended range, 69-70 gr pills.

Work up to 25.3 grains of XBR8208 for the most accurate load, and CCI450's, it's under max load but is very accurate in Lake City brass...

My buddy hunts with factory loads using the 53 V Max. He has 56 S Texas hogs w 56 shots. He calls his rifle "Mayweather".

It's a Rem 700 and wears a Hart 1:9 twist heavy contour barrel.

That originally was chronoed out of a 20" barrel and was running 3150. I shoot the same load out of 16 & 18" barrels but have never checked the speed.
From what I'm seeing, I tend to think that AR comp is faster. I haven't loaded the AR comp long enough to run it thru the crono but the loads with it are accurate and seeing the impact on target APPEAR to be faster. I'm running these strictly thru AR's.

I SHOOT THOSE 53GR VMAX'S IN SEVERAL 223 WITH 450 PRIMERS AND 8208 XBR WITH OUTSTANDING RESULTS AND TINY GROUPS :D:D
