53 v max

Here is a pretty wide spread of things to consider, not knowing what powders you have within your reach.

The following is close enough to the 53 VMax to the point where this data matters.

The good news is there are many good powders and this is an easy bullet.
I have burned a lot of 53VMax and I have made several powders and brands work well.
YMMV

Benchmark is what I'm using in both my 223 and 223ai with 50 - 52 grain bullets and getting good accuracy.
For what it's worth, Nosler#6 shows Benchmark giving the highest velocities for 50/52 & 55 grain loads.

Many will work. I use w748

28.0 gr of 748. Or 27.0 gr of H335 and a moly bullet.
Win 748 has been around for a long time and is one of those weird powders that is, often, a top performer in 223's with both light and heavy bullets. The first AR I got back in the early 80's Win748 was my "go to" powder. H335 is another good powder that always seems to perform well in 223's especially with the middle weight bullets. Both 748 and H335 flow like water through a powder meter too.

There are a lot of powders that will work really well in a 223 53Vmax combo so finding one that shoots well for you won't be a problem. You could ask ten different shooters what powder they use for this combo and you'll probably get ten different answers. That's certainly not a bad thing.

It may not be ideal but I have had good luck with N140 under a 53Vmax in a Tikka 223AI. Coyotes don't like it at all.

I plan to try some LT-32 once Prairie Dogs season comes around.

I'm the odd man out here...I have excellent luck with bullets from 50 to 68 grains with AA2200 in .223 and especially well with the 53-grain VMAX. I have three 8-pound jugs from the same lot that I'm slowly working through. Got it cheap several years ago and will keep using it until it's gone, then switch to CFE223. Both shoot close to the same in both accuracy and velocity for my use.

Ok guys thanks good information. I have a lot of terminator x I would like it to work anyone using that powder ?

I have only run a few Ramshot powders, and have not tried X-Terminator. However, the Hodgdon website shows their data for a 53 grain TSX which is a copper solid. SO close enough to say it is worth a try using a regular 53 cup-core bullet. I would put the 53 VMax at magazine length and give it a try, using all the best precautions as you get hotter.
