Hi All,
I'm getting ready to set up my first rifle and need some help on optics setup options. Rifle is a Savage 12FVSS .308. I'd like to eventually work my way up to 600+ yard shots for paper punching. The scope I'm considering is a Nikon Monarch UCC 6-24x50.
First off, are the one piece Weaver style rails better than the picatinny style rails based on the finer Weaver slot spacing? Do the Weaver style rails give finer adjustability based on the closer spacing? What is a good brand of rail and with what brand of rings is it good with, probably need a 25 MOA slope for longer distances I presume)? I'll probably have to get taller rings due to the 50mm objective, but how much higher do I need to go and keep the scope as close to the barrel as possible?
I've been looking for a good article on rifle scope mounting systems and "how-to's", and 50mm objective clearance problems, but they must be buried in forums.
Thanks in advance.
