50 grand to spend on target rifle =P

Very recently I entered a contest where I shot a Remington Model 700 .243 Win. and shot a .77 inch group and thought it good. The winning group at this contest was .27 inch group with a 22 Dasher. I did some scouting around in my accounts and figured that I have 50,000$ to spend on a target rifle. I am very blindsided on how the whole gun's work. I am very good at looking at variables such as winds, barrel twist rates, trajectorys, and trigger pull. So I am looking for good gunsmiths and advice on what to get and modify for my new rifle. I plan on getting a 6mm BR Model 700 Remington Single Shot, so please get back to me soon.

With a $50K budget, there is no reason to scrimp on any part of this build. You did not list range of target. I would pick a smith known to build competitive rifles for that disipline and give him a call. Tell him what you want, colors and such, and have him build it.

I want to make sure this wasn't a typo. Are you saying you plan to spend fifty thousand dollars for a target rifle?

Do yourself a favor, and don't tell the smith you have a $50K budget. Just get a list together for what you want built and the parts you want used, and ask for a quote. $50K can buy you all the shooting goodies you need and a new car, truck, or SUV,pick one) to get you to the range! :D

Do youself a real favor and call Lester Bruno, http://www.brunoshooters.com/ )and ask him to build a 6mmPPC at the level he would build one for National competition and have him include an extra barrel, scope mounted with rings of hsi choise, turned and weighed cases, bullets, and reloading dies with an arbor press and cleaning rods. Also as about the "sweet" N133 powder. He is a National Champion and builds national championship level guns. This will get you a turn-key uber quality gun set-up thant you will never have to question.

A friend has one and it is shooting in the .1"s consistently. This will get you a rifle capable of winning a nation level BR match for about $5000. Then spend the rest of the money on learning to shoot and enjoying the smile that will come on your face.

Here ya go! This gun will shoot in the .1's, for a lot less too!

Ok, I am very sorry for this...disturbing 50k. I'm saying that meaning to say I can buy just about ANY combonition of rifle parts to build my new gun.

Ok, I've looked around a bit and have found a few excellent gunsmiths,a few listed to you guys) but Lestor Bruno seems to have the best availibility. Now I am wondering though, what kind of scope should I be looking at? I've seen two I'm focusing on. Leupold VXII or some type of Nikon scopes. So a new shout-out on that would be nice.

We can give more helpful suggestions if you provide more details. What distance will you be shooting? Are you shooting just for group, or does the club also have score matches. Do you have a weight limitation? Do you want to use the gun at registered matches, that means complying with certain rules regarding weight, barrel profile and stock design.

Also, do you think you'll want to reload at the range? Does the gun need to do double-duty as a for-real varminter.

If you're shooting just paper, at mostly 100 and 200 yards, many folks would suggest getting a good used 6PPC, try 'er out and maybe then adding a new barrel. For a scope, if price is not an object I'd look at the March 40X. If you want to shoot 500 and 600-yard matches, the March 10-60X would be a good choice, as would be a Nightforce 12-42x. But you'd have trouble making a 10.5 pound weight class with the NF.

Throw some names, some brands, something, hunting, tactical, STRATEGIC, competing, whatever, so it would look credible! $50,000 is all you got!?

Mate if you want a top gun for competition forget remington.I have 2 sleaved 40x LV & HV.get a custom.BUT go to the range & meet some people ask lots of questions & work out what dicipline is for you.Shoot the rem. for now don't think you can buy a winning rifle it needs to be tuned & steered you got a whole lotta learnin before you win a open comp. loading is critical & not just factory type loading neck turning, seating depth, powder charge are but a few of the variables. If your thinking BR & are anywere near Mitchigan go to the IBS school.DONT tell people how much you can spend.just listen for a while you go charging at this game & you will buy lots of thingy's that you'll never us.Be patient & don't expect to win have realistic goals.Going from .7 to .3 groups is EASY but from .3 to .2 or better isn't so easy. And remember this game is won buy aggregates that 5X5 at 100 and 5X5 at 200.Some make it look easy ask them how long they been at it.I'm not trying to put you off just pointing out the reality of this crazy BR thing
Good Luck & Good shootin Jim

Hey, Your in luck cuz I just happened to have just the rifle you are looking for and I'm only asking 49 thousand. Just send me a money order and I'll take care of the rest ;)

I've never built a rifle in my life.

Most gunsmiths will be very good to you, but it's never wise to tell the salesperson how much you are willing to spend, cuz it just always seems to be just what they have for sale! LOL.

I have Bat- SV 20 PPC -150" short rifle that I have shot .3" groups with. If I can shoot that, some may be able to be better, as I'm no bench shooter, and it will only run you $2,100.00 delivered. For $10K I'll hand deliver it to you. :)

Michael

bench for fun, Ive been shooting competition since 1993 and have shot most types of rifle matches. in high power [XTC] i am in master class. in most comp. i'm in the middle range of scores. a couple of years ago i shot in a couple of bench rest matches and ended up near the bottom. and it was not the rifle or ammo as they are capable of .15-.30" groups it was purely my inability to read the wind flags. if i were you i'd go with a used rifle untill you are sure what you want to do. ie what type competion. if you buy a used rifle you can always sell it and start from scratch. my $.02____treeman

No amount of money will make any difference.
In the end, You'll need knowledge and experience.

That's my prediction

if i had 50 grand to spend on guns i would build ten of them you all know its the sickness again can't stop more guns & more guns
