50 BMG uppers

has anyone here owned one of these ? If so , how do they preform in all respects ? Thanks , Kenneth
Get ahold of some of the FCSA guys - I know a few have tried them but not with a high amount of success from accuracy standpoint. - I know that for the money there are a couple of better options IMO if your looking to get into the "50 game" - The AR-50 being one of them.

Im not in the know by any means. But ivr read and heard the 50 bmg uppers are just too much stress on an AR lower. You got all that going on, on top, then the thin aluminum and thin holes and pins holding it to you shoulder in you face... Its not something Id want... but on the other hand I havent seen pics of any failing to work or coming apart either..

the Armalite AR50 national match is a great starting point imo... The breaks are super efficient.

AR15 lowers are not made to hold up to 50 cal.to much stress, even with a brake more recoil,,don't you love it when some say KICK,,get one made for the JOB !!

for me it comes down to this,if you work on your stuff do you use a tapered screwdriver or a hollow ground gunsmiths type, get the right too for the job!!

The fifty recoil's, a 10 gauge Turkey gun
Kicks.

I have shot the Ferret upper /not mine/ a ton of times. I can easily spot my shots at 600, surprisingly accurate with the cheapest components. Very heavy with a long barrel, super loud too.
Unfortunately not too many ranges allow 50bmg. The lower is just a regular off the mill mil spec.

Thanks for the replies , guess I'll bounce this around some more as to getting into the 50 cal. game . What was said was pretty much my concerns . I have enjoyed the little shooting I have done with a couple , but I do wonder if it would end up a safe gun .

Ferret 50 is a good one, not cheap but they are built well and are proven. I've been around them a bit in the past at fcsa competition, if I were getting an upper, it would be from ferret. However for the price, you can buy an entry level rifle, then it's just a matter of what you want.

A re-barreled Ferret holds the currect FCSA Unlimited Gun record - see this page - http://www.ferret50.com/index.html - scroll down to 2014 when the record was set. The Ferrets are also available with their own lower as a rifle - or you can buy their lower. That noted, I believe their lead time is quite long. But only calling them will get you the current status.

I don't recall the year, but an upper failed at raton on the 2nd bench down from me.
It was attributed to a out of battery ignition.
But the shooters hand/thumb was not ripped off ,so that was bull.
He was air evac with 2 chest wounds amoung others.he servived with no loss of eyesight. Please wear real safety glasses!!!
Any how I would not want one and am not mentioning the brand.
