5 shot group

this is the best one ive ever shot,so far.
gun is a stevens action, with original trigger i worked over and breaks clean and crisp at 1 1/4 lbs, heavy barrel .223 26 inch.
scope is a weaver t-24 with fine crosshairs and 1/8 dot. awesome scope.
i know one thing if you dont have a decent trigger and dont have consistent cheek pressure on the stock,it very hard to get a good group.i think the one at the bottom was number 5,i pulled it a little.how would this do in competition?ive never shot competition, just for fun.

That's Good shootin!
How you would do in competition depends on the competition. Give it a try in a class your rifle is legal (light varmint?) and enjoy the experience. Most competitors will make you feel welcome. Many are there mostly for the comraderie. Go for it!

it was at 100 yards, shot from a bench
what class would this be? i dont know, the stock is a laminate thumbhole stock, the rifle weighs 11-13lbs

nut---------Nice group, you may want to try the factory class in an IBS score shoot. You'll have to shoot 5 sets of 5 record shots (25 total) at 25 individual targets the bull being a 1/2 " circle ( the 10 ring) with a 1/16" dot in the center. However, you have 10 minutes to shoot each set of targets and you must shoot in whatever conditions nature deals you. If there are multiple relays you may start around 10 am and finish around 3 pm....meaning you may well encounter the whole gamut of conditions. If that tight group turns you on, there's no better learning experience than shooting some form of competition.

I agree with Lh Smith.
Your close to a good load, very very close.
Assuming factory barrel if you can repeat that five times plus sighters your quite well on your way to bringing home wood in factory class competitions. Usually the competition in factory class is not hard to beat.
Question always is, can you do it again?

I shot this during 200yd load development. Yes theres 5 in there. Savage VLP 204 Ruger with Benchmark and 40gn Bergers. Repeatable? Obviously not. That load and factory barrel did give .25 moa at 200yds for a short while with that load. How long maintainable accuracy is possible with a factory barrel is impossible to say. 26gn Varmint grenades came out and I just had to try them at 4600+fps. When that test was over the barrel never shot that specific load again. Or the 40 gn bullets for that matter. Best advice. Stick with what you have and perfect it if possible and shoot it.
Maintaing a modicum of that type of accuracy is close to impossible. But I never regretted bolting a NF 12x42 on top of that Savage rifle. Good Luck

For bench rest at 100 yds, check out the IBS and NBRSA rules to see what class your rifle fits in. Regardless, it seems that many local unregistered shoots are very open to most guns, its the spirit of shooting that counts.

where can i buy a couple of wind flags,or what do you suggest?
There again, go to a competition and see what people are using. The flags are there for everyone to read so you don't need your own to start.

The 0ne shot out would place you second or third in the factory division at my club match out of five shooters......unregestered club varmit match...Unlimited division... fifth of five shooters..

PS: Some of the Ulimited shooters started worse ...Takes time and work....
