5-8/24 Bloop tube?

Im looking for an extension to a 27" barrel threaded 5-8/24 to start shooting match sights. Anybody have any ideas for me vs having to cut the threads?

My first thought would be to put a thread protector over the muzzle, then clamp on your bloop tube behind the thread protector. That may not work, though depending on your barrel profile -- you'd need the barrel outer diameter to be wider than the max OD of your thread protector.

I recall that a few folks have looked to mount a tuner on a 5/8-24 thread; @gunsandgunsmithing may have some ideas that would also work for your bloop tube needs?

awesome info, thank you!

I did a similar on my bergara, found a thread protector with the same OD as my bloop tube ID and just glued it on with epoxy, then I just threaded my bloop tube to my barrel

That sounds like a good trick. Did you have any trouble keeping the bloop tube aligned with the bore? Not that you'd have problems with the bullet striking the tube, just thinking that the front sight left-right alignment can be sensitive.

Lucky or not, I didn't. The thread protector was a pretty tight fight, my biggest issue was finding one with a 0.750 inch OD

This is who I used to get my thread protector: https://hughesprecision.com/

I think Scott Medesha may still offer tubes.

A friend of mine made me one recently, the design can be pretty basic. May not even require a thread protector.

Oh yeah, assuming that your thread OD is less than the OD of the barrel behind it, you can probably get away without a thread protector.

Be sure to keep it tight. I'll always remember one of our top local shooters walking downrange at the end of a string to retrieve his during a big match!
