5.7 x 28 FN

Is anyone loading the 5.7 x 28 FN cartridge? I have a friend who is loading for his and would like to get additional load data.

thanks!

German:

I havent started loading for mine yet but I do have brass and dies. I am still, when and if I ever do shoot mine, using factory ammo right now. BUT, there was a good spread on the cartridge in the latest issue of Guns and Ammo, I believe, with some pretty good load data.

It is supposedly a VERY finicky cartridge and will get you in trouble fast if you go just a .2 gr or so over the max charge. I think I still have that article if he needs it.

Thanks! I'll see if he has it and if it's still on the newstands. He said that about every 4th round seems to be high pressure. He likes to load fast, not the "weigh every charge" type.

Not weighing MIGHT be the issue then. Everything I have read about loading for this cartridge from back when it first came out and I got dies, about 2 yrs ago or more) and now, is that it can be a dangerous one due to the very small capacity as .2 or so grs is a HUGE difference and if you are running max loads, going over can be a major problem.

I just realized that I did throw away my issue,June G&A and its on page 20) but I DID make a copy for my loading bench! So, if he needs a copy, let me know, scanner time).

I don't know if this will help .

THE ORIGINAL THREAD IS FROM 2008. I TRIED THE VARIOUS WEBSITE SUGGESTIONS, GOT A 404 ERROR MESSAGE.

WELL, IN THE LAST 14 YEARS HAS ANYONE WORKED UR A LOAD FOR THE 5.7 X 28.

Brian Pearce did an excellent article on 5.7 loading in the Nov 2022 Handloader.

It contains a link that shows 66 of his load tests.
To view these for free, you have to link to it through the article.
Be careful printing pages; it also has several pages of .40 S&W loads,
and these will print first, unless you select just the 5.7 pages.
Unless, of course, you just can't get enough .40 S&W load data.

I am loading for T/C 14" barrel. Look into AA 4100 and VV 3N38 powders that are likely good. But these loadings will not be for pistol or even SBR. They are suited to loading as a rifle or in my case the Contender.

He posted that in 2008.
He passed away 2 years ago...

I reload for my CMG Banshee AR15 with a 5" barrel. Use AA#7 shooting 35 and 40 grain V-max. I will verify my loads at home but I believe 7.0 grains for the 35 grain Vmax and 6.5 for the 40 grain) I use CCI 400 primers and Lee dies. I recommend weighing every charge.

So far so good. Brass is on it's 3rd firing. Accuracy has been better in my rifle with the 35 grain Vmax.
