5.6x50

Gater

I have a chance to pick up a 5.6x50 BSA falling block. Has anyone messed with this round ? Or can the be reamed out if so any thoughts on what would be a good target round am open to all ideas thanks guys

I would be very wary, if you do not know the history of the rifle, as it is likely to be a conversion from a rimfire rifle. Many BSA's were converted to Hornet and other low pressure rounds, using the rimfire barrel. Other may have been re-barrelled. The firing pin geometry was altered and this is usually evident in the block. Take care, to my knowledge BSA never made a centrefire Martini rifle.

well guys thanks for your input decided to back off from that brain fart. Just have a little extra cash and have the itch for a new toy and kinda liked the falling block will stick with that action just a different caliber and maker thanks again

I don't know anything about the 5.6x50, but I have a few Martini Cadets. They were originally training rifles for young Australians and we're chambered in 310 Cadet which is near enough to 32-20WCF that the sloppy 310 Cadets can shoot 32-20 rounds. The frame is strong enough that it can hold up to any cartridge that will load into the cavity of the falling block. The upper end of that is a cartridge the size of 357 Magnum. Mine in 357 Mag is very accurate and not a hint of frame stretch or other pressure related issues.
Most of the Martinis that were converted, to 22 Hornet or any CF were these Cadets, and many Cadets were also converted to 22LR as well. I've heard of but never seen one of the 22LR Target guns being converted to 22 Hornet and believe that to be extremely rare.

The best part of the 310 is it shoots 32-20 ammo without any modifications.

I need to thin the rim on a 32-20 case for the action to close on my .310 cadet. I load the 32-20 case with a heeled cast bullet. Never tried firing a 32-20 factory round in the rifle.
