5.56 ammo shot through a bolt action .223

I havent done this and dont plan on it. Just curious? I looked on multiple sites and I hear all kinds of different answers. Anyone have some true proof to this?

Are you asking can it be done or should it be done? The rifle manufacturer is the only one that can answer that question. If the owners manual does not state it is safe, I would not do it myself but I am no expert.

In my AR, I shoot pretty much anything except the eastern bloc or russian stuff. They use corrosive primers and god only knows what's in the powder. I've seen a few guns that sat for a while and weren't cleaned turned in to scrap metal after using that ammo.

http://www.saami.org/specifications_and_information/publications/download/SAAMI_ITEM_211-Unsafe_Arms_and_Ammunition_Combinations.pdf Looks like SAAMI has revised there warning on 3/6/2012. Would seem to be OK to fire factory Nato 5.56 ammo in a rifle chambered for the 223 Rem. The higher pressure of the nato, may have been an issue in the past, maybe??? http://www.saami.org/specifications_and_information/index.cfm?page=CC
In your first link, I can't find where it states it is OK to fire 5.56 Nato in a 223. Can you point that out?

Here is what I see:
In Firearms Chambered For Do Not Use These Cartridges
223 Remington 5.56mm Military
222 Remington
25-45 Sharps
30 Carbine
300 AAC Blackout
