Hit one of the ranches after work Saturday & commenced right to targeting p-dogs about 6pmish. Was about 30 rounds into them and got up to stretch and looked up on of the drainages and saw at least 3 million p-dogs all on top of their mounds just barking like crazy and all tuned in one direction into the breeze.
Now I know they are not barking at me so I'm thinking man there has to be coyote or other animal within their town.
I grab my Savage .223 rig and dip into the low part of the drainage & maybe 200 yards up it I pop up onto a low hill and YUP I see a coyote nose into a hole, he looks right at me as I'm going prone. Turns and starts to walk off in no hurry. I bark at him as I'm dialing my turrent to my 300 yard mark as I figure he is at least that far right now, he turns at my barking and THwaaap the 50g vmax dumps him on the spot. I pull my rangefinder out and its 302 yards.
From this spot I can see my truck, my table and figure he had to of seen me drive in, hear my shooting and clanging around & still stuck around figuring he was safe.
I go back to shooting p-dog til 815pm. Ran a tad under 70 rounds in that early eve shooting.
I set up my cot in the bed of the truck & crash about 10pm as I will be up at 5am.
I wake around 11pm to coyotes going off about 1/3 mile from me and I know they are at a dead pile up another gully.
Its to tempting so I get up grab my night rig and start walking into the cool breeze clear star light night.
I get within maybe 125 yards, lay prone over a knoll top that over looks the old dead pile & see 3 coyotes at it.
I lay one out with my AR15 night rig & leave it there. Took a pic w/my cell phone but photobucket wont load it up.
I didn't come to call coyotes last weekend, just p-dogs, but I wont let any easy coyote opportunities slip by.
Go back to the cot and wake at 5am, start into p-dogs at 530 am till 1030 am when I gave it up due to 13-23 mph warm winds. I was able to run a tad over 300 rounds shooting into & with the breezes.
How it was hard not to keep at it as I had my wind holds all dialed in from 100-425 yards in a short time.
Darn it was not supposed to be windy, just in the single digits.
Just above the suppressor tip across the gully is where I shot the 1st coyote it from.
P-dog missing his noggin from trying to stay low & keep barking, all the p-dogs pics are like any other, red mess.
