.458 twist rate ??

I am wanting a 458 caliber rifle to shoot 400+ grain bullets subsonic. I've noticed that some bullet manufacturers (Lehigh Defense) recommend a 1 in 10 for their 465 grain bullets. My Shiloh Sharps would shoot 540 grain bullets great with (I think) a 1 in 18 twist.

Is this Bullet composition, bearing surface or what am I missing?

Thanks

Remember that L-D is making solids not cup and core bullets so they are longer per caliber (diameter) than the standard lead and copper bullets of equal weight. Shorter bullets require less twist to stabilize than the longer bullets of the same weight.

Subsonic for what use? Hunting? Fun shoots? Match/Targets?

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Thinking about a 45-70 Whisper for fun and hunting.
