450 Bushmaster Savage small shank bolt gun?

I'm considering trying to build a 450 Bushmaster on a Savage small shank action. Anyone done this? Who would have the barrel and bolt head for sale needed to do this? I know I could buy a Savage bolt gun in 450 Bushmaster but I would like to build my own if possible.

We built a Mauser in 450 bushmaster and got a barrel from http://www.troupsystems.com/ also known as Rhineland arms. They used to offer savage barrels as well. The rifle shoots very well. BTW the 450 uses a 308 size bolt face as it is based on the 284 win. case.
Good luck with your build

Thanks for the link. They do have 18" Savage barrels with their QPQ finish with a compensator in stock according to their site. Really tempted to try one out for only $160.

I have a 45 Raptor barrel on a Savage short action. Came from liberty/Saturn barrels. At the time I think it was 300.00 threaded and chambered in 22". Muzzle is threaded for a brake also. Not sure what they offer today. Seems like they got rid of the longer barrels and only offer 18-20" barrels now. They also offer 450 BM

Reviving this. I AM building a 450 Bushmaster using a Savage 12 action, a Rhineland Arms barrel with a 4 port brake screwed on the end, and a take-off Savage laminate stock. It will be topped with a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14X40 SF BDC scope. It should be a very capable deer (possibly hog) slayer. :)

Again I ask, has anyone else built a 450 Bushmaster on a Savage action using a DBM set up/stock, and if so, what modifications, if any, did you have to do to get the 450 rounds to feed well out of a magazine? I plan on using a Savage 243/308 magazine as the 450 rounds fit well in the magazine but looks like they might catch on the front lip of them coming out.

Any help or insight with the potential magazine problems appreciated.

You will have no problems feeding. My Raptor feeds fine. I have M5 bottom metal and it feeds from the 308 magazines. You may have to play with the feed lips on the magazine for adjustment but they will feed fine. The Raptor case is only slightly longer than the 450 BM. I think it's 1.8 vs 1.7.

Gun is coming together nicely. :)

This wont help much but On the Mauser we built, it is a long action and I have a dbm as well, and the long action mags required a little finesse. I ended up having to make a small block inside the mag to help with the feeding. It ended up internally the same length as a short action mag.
Your build is coming along and looks nice. Good luck sir.
Please keep in mind using a bolt gun you could use some of the heaver bullet offerings. Also we have had great luck with some of the muzzle loading bullets.

I did have to spread the inside walls of the magazine out just a tad to get reliable feeding but it seems to be feeding/ejecting flawlessly now. I do plan on trying my own loads eventually. Just need to get some brass and dies, etc. I know some guys are running up to 40gr of Lil Gun and getting close to 2500 fps with the 250gr bullets.

For dies I bought the Hornady set. I also added a lee factory crimp. They are ok, But think the lee 450 set may have been a better choice. I caught a sale at midway on the brass and dies. I am glad you figured out the mag issue. I will check my loading notes tor bullets we have tried. There is a custom bullet maker who makes some heavy bullets i will find you his name. My son also hunts with a 45 win mag wildcat he built. almost identical velocities, he has had great luck with the Barns offerings. The bullet was real impressive performance on 2 whitetails at 100 plus yds.

Here is a link to one of the bullets makers we tried. https://parker-productions-llc.myshopify.com/collections/ballistic-extreme
These are very impressive and preform very well. We were exposed to them via muzzle loading club where we belong.
This guy makes some very nice bullets shot some of his in both the 45 win mag and the 450. he has a 300 grain offering. https://cmacustomammo.com/products/custom-bullets
BTW there is another company like Parker above that makes aluminum tipped bullets like the ballistic extreme. https://www.furycustombullets.com/webapp/p/208/muzzle-loader

With these bullets is where having a bolt gun really shines in this caliber and gives you a lot more options.
