Shot at 645 am, 70 yards from the 2 track, over a steep hill.
Done cut up & in fridge before grinding it up & making it into jerky & ground goat.
Was maybe 700 yards from truck total.
I was walking the 2 track into the breeze as I planned that already since I know where decent bucks w/their does are always at. I slept out in one of the pastures, set up a cot and was ready early AM. No other hunters allowed on the ranch until I fill my tags, very nice!.
I see 4 of them on the road 180 yards out and sit down on the road for 10 min to see where they are moving to.
They move into the gully area on the N side of the road, so I head down a finger to stay low.
I pop up and see maybe 20, so I walk forward a little higher and glass, then I look up the hill and see this guy at the top looking at me. I drop prone, flip the bipod down and see its 1 that I would shoot. I call him Mr Y due to the wider horn spread.
He stands there for 10 min facing me and looking at his does then me.
I know he cant figure what I am yet.
Wont shoot full facing. I range it at 219 yards uphill.
Coyotes go off howling, he turns sideways and starts coming right at me, then stops & turns nicely broadside and I drop it with the 6x6.8, 95g NHBT. Complete pass through right behind the shoulders. He shudders then drops & rolls over 4x down the hill of course as its steep.
I take a pic, walk back to the truck and I'm only 70 yards from it, but to steep above it.
I gut it and give the game cart a tryout since that's what my boys got me last Xmas so I don't have to drag them when I don't need to.
I load it up and naturally the cart tries to take off down hill.
As I gut it 2 coyotes go off yapping at me, they have already smelled death and Ill bet the pile is gone by 12 noon.
I can see them running back & forth across the gully + 2 fingers more, maybe 600 yards.
Only took me 10 min to tug it up the steep hill.
Home at 930.
Will go back Thursday fro my 2nd tag.
I heard no less than 9 different coyote groups last night and this morning.
That's the exit hole at the left shoulder, maybe a 50 cent sized hole after pulling the hide off. Tops of lungs gone.
