45-70 FL die

Is there someone who makes a 45-70 fl die that doesn't squeeze the case down in size so drastically?
They are being fired in a new Marlin 1895. Any more sizing and I'll wind up with a belted/rimmed case.
Thanks,
Chuck

Well it took RCBS 30 minutes to respond to my email. (Can never ay enough good things about their customer service.)
They say I may have a larger chamber and to send 5 fired cases for a quote on a custom die.
Just wondered if anyone else has run into this? And was/is there a solution aside from a custom die.

All of my BPCR dies come from Buffalo Arms. You may still have to use a factory sizer, but they have a ton of options for expanders, and that sounds like where your problem lies.

I use RCBS dies for my 45-70, and they ARE a great company for supporting their customers. I have one of the Miroku Winchester 1886 rifles, and I've had no problems, except with the short LeverRevolution cases. How much do they want for a custom die? What gun do you have? Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I have a new 1895 Marlin. The Hordnady cases are .050 shorter. It is not really a problem I'm having but I know the cases are being resized WAY too much. I would rather not over work the bass that much. The short Hornady brass is nearly impossible to crimp on the cannelure on the Hornady FTX bullets......I just single load those....they are 325gr and my most accurate load so far.
Thanks

I single load for mine also, with the Hornady stuff. I can't crimp them with my dies. I've been looking for an older JM stamped Marlin so I can use a scope. My eyes are fading with age.Is yours a "new", or "new to you" older gun?

Why cant you mount a scope on a newer one Josh? Am I missing something here? Why cant you polish the die out to remove some of the oversizing that is going on? Or have it honed out at a small local machine shop that has a sunnen hone which most have them or an internal grinder if you want it super perfect.

Jon I believe the 1886 ejects thru the top. Maybe that is what he is referring to?

Yes, the 1886 would need a "scout scope". Thought about it, but the Marlins are easier, and standard. Not willing to change the "feel" of the bare Winchester. I'd like to find an older Marlin, as I think they're built better and are a better investment. I found one, at a store down south, that they want 650 for. I'm trying to talk him down a little. It's a little scruffed up.
