4350 Powders

Do the various 4350 powders have the same or similar characteristics? IE: Hodgdon H4350, IMR 4350, Accurate 4350. If they are similar is one more consistent than another?

H4350 is the one you seek.

The others have similar burn rates but definitely aren't the same. IMR 4350 is temperature sensitive and although I don't have firsthand experience with it, I suspect that Accurate 4350 is as well.

I've found H4350 to be exceptionally predictable and consistent and I would recommend you go with it even if you have to pay a bit more to get it.

If you can't get H4350 get IMR 4451. It has a similar burn rate and it's temp insensitive like H4350. The others I'd stay away with. I've seen IMR 4350 have 150FPS differences from winter to summer weather.

I have used IMR-4350 all of the years I reloaded I've had no problem with it at all warm cold it always went bang what ever one you use go by the book work up to max loads. I've used it in my 243 and up to some big magnums One mans fancy one mans hate Good Luck

I have been using Accurate 4350 as a replacement for H4350 here lately and I have been well pleased with it. Works excellent in the 6mmXC 6.5 creed and the .260. I haven't used it in anything else. Velocities are a touch slower than with H4350 but accuracy is good and I haven't noticed any major swings in velocity due to temp either. I would say it would be worth a pound to try out and see if you like it. It meters much better than H4350 as well which is nice.

Might depend on what you want to use the powder for. Target shooters like H4350. Even if they only use it at one temperature, they kind of fall into the "cult" of H4350. I have tried it for target. PIA to fill Dasher cases and lower velocity. Never bothered in hunting guns because old IMR 4350 has killed literally hundreds of deer for me in a variety of calibers (270 my favorite) under a variety of conditions.

I will keep using it until death do us part.
