40X vs Pierce

I'm contemplating a .308 f/Tr build, and I can start with either a single shot 40X, or Pierce action. Anybody have insight to share between the two?

You are comparing a Impala to a Corvette.

Even the 40X is not of the specs of the Pierce Custom.

I spoke with Jonh Pierce yesterday, he is an engineer and shooter. He also takes time to talk with his customers. How many times have you talked to the engineer at Remington.
I have built several rifles with the customers Pierce action all were great shooters.

The Pierce is hands down better than the 40X. You will have way more in the 40X trying to bring it to John's receiver than you can pay for a Pierce.

hi matt

i just got around yesterday to shoot my new build on the pierce and i can say i love it very smooth, and my smith says for the price its not even worth playing around with a remington, very tight tolerances and better made i would buy another one.

ps my defiance action is being shipped today anxious to see how this build will finish and the quality of the action

I have a Pierce single shot in .222 that shoots like a dream. I have had a good number of 40x's come and go and I have shot some amazing groups. My current 40x rimfire with factory barrel shoots in the .100's

I have 25 years as a Machinist and several degree's collecting dust. If you can not measure a tolerance you cannot claim it. .0002" is a tall claim and most shops don't have the equipment to measure it, I have worked in 2 that can lake the claim. If you have a temp controlled room and a Jig Grinder you can talk, if you are in your garage with a Grizzly Lathe pray for a thou at most....

I have an Angelinni tool room lathe from Italy that is tight as the best, I would not claim anything better than a couple thou perpendicularity or concentricity.

Not sure what any of that has to do with the original poster's question, but there's no comparison between the quality of the products in question. The Pierce is made to much higher standards. The 40x is marketing hype. The Pierce is about precision performance.
