40X question on the ejector spring

We recently got a 40X single shot action that has a plunger, but either the spring is broke or missing. My question is can I buy a replacement spring and can I tune the spring down a bit so it will eject but not fling the brass hard? Right now we have to pull every empty case off the extractor.

Thank you,

Ron Tilley

Sometimes that spring is stuck in the compressed condition. Remove the ejector and check the spring. You can easily replace the spring and adjust the length to suit your desired ejection. Many just leave the ejector out and others make it weak enough to just flip the empty case out.

The factory replacement will probably toss the case to the next zip code. It is easy to shorten the spring a little at a time untill it ejects the case about 6 inches away. The most aggravating part is knocking that little pin out and in.

Order two springs. odds are you might cut the first one a little too short.

If you have one of the old solid pins that's splined at one end, get rid of it like Remington finally did and replace it with a roll (tension) pin. Easy to remove and replace and still fits tightly after several removals. Be sure to use a roll pin punch for a roll pin.
