I have a 40X in 6-284 with a 22” 10” twist bbl from Remington’s custom shop. I cannot contact the original owner with thix question. I recently chrony’d it and found not too surpringly that it is about 150 fps below all the published load data in all bullet weights I tried. I purchased this rifle mainly for future rebarrelling and its very decent scope/mounts. My question is why anyone in the late 80s timeframe would choose this hotrod bbl-burner then stifle it with a stubby barrel? It does not appear to have been rebarrelled or set back.
