40X bolt smoothness?

We recently got a target rifle built off a 40X single shot action. I know the differences between them and full custom actions. My question is can there be anything done to the 40X bolt to smoothen up the cam over to not upset the gun so much in the bags? It's going to shoot 600 and 1000 yard Benchrest. I have thought about fluting the bolt to help smoothen it up, would that help?

Thank you,

Ron Tilley

Reduce the depth of the notch for the cocking piece. Several forces come together at the same time. The extractor has to slice/ride over the rim, the ejector has to be compressed and the cocking piece has to ride over the notch.

You need to shed some cock on close That opens another can of worms It’s a balancing act

thank you for your reply. I am gonna try it today, this rifle doesnt have a working ejector right now. the plunger is there but no spring. I was curious about the "notch" but wasnt sure if I should try to tackle that or not. I think I have a way to do it without over doing it.
