4007 ssc

has anyone tried imr 4007 ssc in a 6BR with 105-108 grain bullets? i see it listed on the 6BR load map and am curious about trying it. Just don't want to go buy a bunch of powder without getting some feedback

My guess is it is a little too fast. It sure shines in my 22-250AI with 69 SMK! I like this powder and would like to see others experiences with other cartridges. Tim

i tried the same load listed on the 6br load map. like it said very tight vertical. i used it at 600 yard f-class matches and it shot very well. try it out you might like it.

I tried it in my 6BR and found that max velocities were down compared to Varget and N540. Great ES and SD though and the vertical was quite good as I recall. Lots of soot as well.

Cole. I wish I could be more specific but all of those records are stuck in the hard drive of my last laptop that has stopped working. As I recall, I ran ladder tests comparing 4007, Varget, RL-15, and N540 in one session. This was the day when I came to understand the extreme variability of chronongraph readings. I was having a great time testing all of these powders and was pleasntly surprised by the velocities I was seeing. Then the last three of about 20 shots with the 4007 dropped about 100fps. That really had me scratching my head. I cleaned the gun thoroughly and tried to repeat the test a different range facility. This time all of the velocities for all of the powders were down on the order of 100 fps. 4007 was again one of those tested and it was again the slowest. As I recall, the velocities with 4007 were in the high 2600 to low 2700 fps range with the Berger 105 VLD from a 31 inch barrel. The case was full at the top of the ladder but I didn't push it into compressed loads because the other powders had consistently performed better, at least in my gun. But the ES and SD were both in single digits so if high max velocity is not a priority, it would be worth a try.
