3x200yd standing match

In Massachusetts they shoot the Eastern Mass Rifle League. Six person teams, three weekends (20 shots OH and 2s). The league has been going on since the 20s or 30s if I remember correctly.

WA State, western side, holds a 600 and 800 offhand agg. This is the kick off to the summer highpower season... and more than 2 people show up.

@OP:
I agree with most of the comments about the challenges of offhand shooting and the unwillingness or inability of many shooters to accept that challenge. I've personally witnessed two very active clubs (each with multiple state championship events and hundreds of members each) drop rimfire silhouette due to declining participation, especially among members. It does seem that most (or many) want to use their range time for other, less challenging activities.
If you want to gauge participation interest, you can always hold a digital postal event. If enough interest is generated a season ending match held at the club of your choice. On RimfireCentral there are a number of these types of events, run on the honor system (don't waste calories worrying about cheaters), with photos posted of targets. Since this is about personal improvement and facing a challenge, its rare that a target or score is challenged. Its about mastering the skill.

Food for thought.

Edited to add: Don't restrict what type of rifle can be used. If you want a service rifle competition, few bolt gunners are going to rush out and buy a service rifle just to get to shoot with a bunch of people who aren't known to the shooter.

I have looked into the silhouette matches and they look appealing. There are not many out there that I could find. I am thinking that a 3x200yd paired with an xtc monthly match may help to get this format some wide-spread acceptance.

Thanks,
-Trevor

Yeah, they are a bit few and far between for highpower silhouette since the official course is 200m out to 500m. You could do scaled targets or paper targets if you were limited to a 200y or 200m range.

reviving this thread. Fairfax Rod and Gun club in Manassas Va just held a 1000 agg offhand match this past Saturday. we shot 4 strings of 25. the first string was with 2 sighters, the rest of the strings were no sighters. despite the cold and very windy weather, they were still able to bring in 18 or so shooters, including several members from the Marine Corp team which are stationed at Quantico. It was a demanding match both mentally and physically but I had a blast.

I also heard they held the same match in Washington at Paul Bunyan Rifle & Sportsman's Club Inc yesterday. IMO, there seems to be some interest in these types of matches and I would like to see more

very cool! 18 shooters is a pretty good amount of shooters, especially given the winter weather. Thanks for sharing.

I shot XTC for many, many years and spent most of my practice time shooting offhand. Most serious students of XTC spend a lot of time on offhand.
So, with age, come joint and eye issues, that can limit your dexterity getting in and out of position. So, some of us have turned to prone and FClass to fuel the competitiveness that still burns within us.
I did my dues shooting offhand for years, don’t criticize us who may choose a different discipline to remain active in the shooting sports. Remember this when your knees and hips creak and moan and you strain to focus through your tri-focals, that day will come my friend.
