3x200yd standing match

Bottom Line Up Front: I would love to attend 3x200yd standing matches (2 sighters & 20 shots for record per match). I propose that we make a nation-wide movement to create this new event.

Is anyone else interested in participating in off-hand only matches?

Background: I am a highpower rifle XTC and LR competitor. Over the years I have attended 3x600yd prone Matches and it has helped a great deal with refining my position and equipment setup. This high volume of prone shooting has allowed me to excel in prone over the years through a great deal of live fire. I have often wished that I could attend 3 x 200yd standing matches. It would be nice if we as a shooting community can decide to create a new slow-fire standing match that will give us all more access to compete and practice the most challenging position (standing) in match conditions. Some clubs have held an all standing match on occasion but that is very rare to see. I am challenging match directors to add this 3x200yd match to their schedule on a monthly basis or maybe alternate one month 3x200yd, next month a 3x600yd prone match. I am aware of high power silhouette competition. I am looking for something more aligned with traditional high power rifle position shooting. Are you up to it?!?

Thanks,

This actually sounds fun. I would try something like this. Seems like its very pratical in application too.

The great majority of shooters nowadays are whimps, they only shoot prone, off rests/bipods with scopes.......:(

I have been a member of 6 different shooting clubs over the last 20 years and only 2 allow any shooting of rifles while standing. Both had a limit of 100 yards. Beyond that, they insisted you are seated or prone. Unless you're an avid hunter of nuisance animals, not many people around here have the skill or means to practice.

I support such a thing in general terms. I doubt that popular demand is there to make it go.

After years of vanilla CMP locally we're only now starting an F-Class/prone shoot to test if post #3 is true and we can pull in some new shooters with prone supported or prone only matches.

Personally, calling me a w(h)imp won't help. Offhand day would definitely be a day for me to administrate only and pass on the shooting. The only good thing about offhand is it's not kneeling.

I'll sanction this....provided the rifle to be utilized is the NM M1 Garand!! All shooting done from 200 yards on the standard NRA 200 yard target.

Silhouette is the ultimate off hand match. I agree a 3X200 with over the course rifles on the 200 yard bull is compelling. There are service rifle silhouette matches out there. Ridgway has one and, depending on your location, Brian would love to have you attend.

I shot the white buffalo at the Whittington Center offhand with a fopen rifle...does that count? :D

If I could get enough interested parties I would do it here in SE Michigan. All I do is shoot OH practice most of the year outside of matches. I love the challenge of OH.

I've been shooting in an off hand league in Liverpool NY for 12 years. 200 yards, 20 rounds in 20 minutes. Participation has declined every year since I started. I used to think bench rest shooting was easy!
Seems like everyone is getting older and wants to sit or lay down.
