39 YEARS AGO PART II

A week later after my hunting partner and I got the meat packed out to the lake we flew out of the Wrangles to north west Alaska about 2hrs north of IIiamna toward Red Devil and got dropped off right in the middle of the Caribou migration route. Back then you could just hire an air taxi to drop you off and come back in two weeks and get you, didn't cost much especially if he was delivering mail some where. That's the visqueen and nylon Hilton we lived in for weeks at a time, did it every year for 10 years, got home every year in time for muzzle loader deer season. What I'd give to make another fall like that....IMG_20190927_102639533.jpg

Same here, my hunting partner and I live in a near zero human land up here in the North of West Canada. 1 hour West of us is the Rocky Mountain Range "foothills... God's country they call it...

Tomorrow morning it will be the land of snow, easy tracking and a big bon-fire at noon time with an afternoon nap...

Deep in the hart of the wilds,,, if it's cold like the forecast is calling for,,, there will only be 2 sets of human foot prints out there... LOL

The track machines will cover alot of ground to get us back there...

$35 bucks in big fuel spending return with vehicles per day,,, unless we camp out for 2 or 3 days longer. Ha...

Cheers from Team frugal

These days, everybody (almost) is carrying a camera in their pocket. Back in the day, nobody had phones on them, and very few took a camera.

Most of the best hunters I've known, NEVER had a camera around to record their success, and it's sad to think how many great trophies and good times never got pics.

I did fair in that department, since I was a fair hunter, fisher, and photographer. Kind of wish I'd been better at all three.

I need to go through my "hard copy" photos, and make them digital.. I've got four months of photos of camping, fishing and some some hunting in BC, Yukon, and Alaska; a trip I took when I was 20. That was in 1977, and I feel pretty old when I think about it. jd

Technology has come a long way, look at the clarity of that picture. ;)
The black spots on the edge of some of the pictures is where the film froze after getting wet, just a cheap little instamatic ( hell, spell check doesn't even recognize the name) ... couldn't carry a good camera they were too heavy. Got some good pics of Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah with mule deer and elk in the late 60s and 70s, kept moving north to get away from the people. Ended up in Alaska in 78 and hunted there till I my legs gave out in 1990. Last three years didn't even kill anything, just enjoyed my friends and and the country and did some fishing. Still enjoying deer hunting with my sons and grandsons here in Arkansas and love prairie dog hunting with them in the spring. Nothing last for ever and time is going by fast seems like...
