38lb top dog.

280 yards,.223, 55g vmax, D740, ps32 for detection.
After having 4 coyotes in front of me as I scanned in front of me walking in on my last set and watching them just dink their way off be fore I could turn on the call/remote and sit I was not sure this set was going to be better.
Corner fence line above bottom land hay field on a cattle ranch I had called for 20 min and was calling it quits, turned off the remote, scanned and my luck I see 2 walking in at not real hurry coming my way.
They heard the call and get below it and never make a real commitment. I quickly get the call back on and on low cussin at myself.
Looks like they are trying to work around me and I flick the IR on and see this guy plain as day in the D740, but pretty far off, the other was still in tall grasses.
He stands broadside and I make a yip w/my mouth call, stops and as I fire he makes a move at the same instant pffwwwap, down he goes, the other is gone before I can take it.
As I walk up to it I see my hit was through the head at an angle when he looked back at his partner as I shot.
38lb male, thick fur, nice hackles, white tipped tail.
700+ yard drag back to the truck.

38 lbs is a big one overall as they average about 34-36 for a top male and about 26-30 for females.
I was out there today and after ranging the shot in day light it was 280 yards, I zig zagged my walking last night so was off by a bit in my step count.

It doesn't need to be a small deer, they can take down adult deer as well. I killed one about 30 years ago that weighed 45#, 2nd one that I'd ever shot & haven't seen one since that went over 40#. I had no idea how big he was at the time but his tanned hide still hangs in my "den" in the basement. He was chasing a large doe when I killed him.

Great kill man thanks for sharing. Ive noticed a lot more dogs in these parts might be a fun winter lol....All the red eared sliders are disappearing so have to switch to yotes for fun

Keep kill-en them. I haven`t star ten calling yet this year, but did miss one while watching the corn get shelled. I did shoot one in the front yard a couple of weeks ago. I spen a lot of time hunting them, but don`t kill many.
