38 National Records 6BR, 1rst 2nd 3rd

Wow what a weekend!!!!!
Rain delay Saturday of the two day Mid Range Prone regional in Memphis TN did not stop a few shooters from setting 38 National Records in a two Day period!!!! The NRA will have to certify that these records are correct but as it stands today FTR, F-O, SF Prone Matalic Sight and SF Prone Any sight records were established and broken.

As this is the 6BR forum you will be glad to know that Gold Silver and Bronze in the SF prone regional were all 6BR's. Not to discount Mark Sniders New national record at the 500 yard line of 150-14X's out of 150 with his Palma Rifle built by Allen Werner. Nothing wes left un touched except police class and women catagory. Grand Senior, Senior,Military,Junior,Open, civilian, they all saw attention.
Frank Beckman shooting his 6.5X47 in F-O set 4 records. Its Gun of the week #62 right here on this forum. Jim Murphy from Kentucky Came down to TN and set all kinds of F-O records on Saturday. With 15 shots for record at 300,500and 600 he cleaned every yard line for a perfect 450 and 32X's. Folks, Thats all X's except 13 of 45. Think about that for a second. The range in Memphis Faces north and is fairly well protected so you get Excellent light on the target and reasonably good wind conditions. What a place.
Gold medal went to a Remington 700 Trued up By Steve Wald at Wald Precision Rifles in Mandan ND. Elisio R1 stock,Bartlein barrel, Centra sight. Right sight front. Sightron SIII 8-32. Kiff Bolt,CG Jackson Trigger, chambered in 6BR 105Berger VLD's
Silver Medal Bill Hocker of Alabama. Barnard action and what looks like a Masterclass stock chambered in 6BR
Bronze Medal Doug Fletcher Savage Target action, Carl Bernousky stock with new 4 way butplate. Kreiger barrel. Pheonix Precision sight, Right Sight front,Chambered by Steve Wald of Wald Precision Rifles of Mandan ND in the great 6BR.
105 Berger VLD's. Doug just got this rifle and it seems to fit him pretty good. : )

I just love to spend time with shooters of this calibre. Shooters are the best people ever. Good shooting guys!!!!!

Results attached in XL Spread sheet. Its two pages wide.

Russ,

Thanks for the great report and the spreadsheet. Look like you shot very well and you're being too modest.

I see a 448/30X followed by a 450/37X for an 898/67X Agg topping everyone for X count.

Is that right?

If so, we should be patting YOU on the back! :thumb:

Pls tell us more about your rig...

Well its by far the most accurate prone gun I have shot to date. And the best part about it, is that its so easy to load very consistant accurate ammo. This Little 6BR will gobble up anything I feed it and put it in the X ring. Lynwood Harrel supplied a FL die that works like a dream. Just size, clean the inside of the neck, clean out the primer pocket seat a primer drop some Varget in and grab a Berger out of the box and go shoot. It has shot in the ones off a bag at 100yards.

Some of the national records were not very high yet so they were not much of an accomplishment, but the 450-37X Im a little proud of. Thats all in the X ring except 8 bullets that went into the ten ring. Also the 150-13X at 600 should stand for a little while.

As for the rifle I believe I have described on this sight before, but I will give a refresher.
Action Is a SA Remington 700 I got from Randal Gregory.
That action sits in one of Gary Ellisio's R-1 stocks
The Barrel is a Bartlein 5R 1:8 twist 30' heavy Palma countor.
The awsome two stage CG Jackson Trigger I could not live without!!
a Dave Kiff Bolt from back in 2004, Its a coned fluted Sako Extractor bolt with Tannel's Spring shroud and firing pin.
I got a reamer from Dave Kiff also. Its a no turn 272 NK .104 FB reamer.
Iron sights for the gun are Centra Rear and Right Sight front. Again another product I could not live without, Wayne Forshee you are the man!!!
For the Scope match I used the new SIII Sightron 8-32. With that great dot. I love it. Its perfect for Prone shooters. I would like to have another one.
All this was put together by the very talented Steve Wald of Wald Precision Rifles,701) 527-6447. He has done Three + rifles that are all capable of winning the national Championship at Camp Perry.
Intrestingly enough Ive been using Norma Brass. Its held up real good. Im on Loading number 10. No loose pockets yet. No doubt do to Lynwoods great FL die. I shoot Berger 105 VLD's at a slow 2850. The gun will shoot just about anything though.

just your basic ingredients. I got all my info from this web site and had it all put together. Too easy. 30.1gr Varget and a CCI Primer.

So I really need to thank you all who put together this great sight. Some Very very well spoken and inteligent folks post here and give great advice.

Hope all is well with you.

Wow, this guy had an unfair advantage -- he was using aperture sights AND a scope at the same time? That's better than steroids. ;)

p.s. Alan Warner builds superb Palma rifles and his famous sights. Not Allen Werner, sic).

Russ, you guys really raised the bar for us, but we'll give it a good try - great shooting by all in your club!

Nice to see an Eliseo Tubegun at winning and setting records, I hope you sent a note to Gary!

Russ's 'WOW' is an understatement.

If you’ve got a drop of competitive shooting in your blood, you should not miss the next meet at this facility.
It is the surprise of surprises…..in Memphis of all freaking places, for crying out loud! It would be a jail sentence for me to tell you what folks from the East end of 10ac, where I live, think of Memphis. How and why have they managed to keep this place a secret for so long??

First of all, the club is located on the edge of a very prosperous and upscale residential area about 3 miles off I-40 and 20 miles west of downtown on the city’s outskirts. Big houses, big yards nestled amongst the pines. I had a deja vu moment thinking that I was entering Callaway Gardens.

Dang! What a nice facility! Row after row of pistol revetments, row after row of bench rests, at least 4 trap ranges and 4 skeet ranges, and then the 600y high power range. And, there was lots of activity at most of the ranges…..at 8 am! In the rain! Nestled in the middle is one of the nicest club houses you will ever enter, with a full time staff managing the office and concessions, plus a full time on-duty Range Officer, and a lap top computer and big screen tv in the lobby, and big conference table, and, and. I was impressed. This MSSA club sure knows how to put together things that work for its members and visitors.

I’d never shot a 300-500-600 before, let alone on the F-Class reduced targets. That 1-1/2” X ring for the 300y target is small even when you've got your nose right up to it in the pits. Then, when you’re pulling for somebody like Jim Murphy, target pulling becomes a real challenge when he starts turning that little X ring to a pulp and then emphasizes his talent by blasting the golf tee spotter twice in a row and blowing the rest of what’s left of the whole X ring out. He had me looking around for bubble gum, wads of Kleenex, anything to plug the gap. I can’t even begin to imagine what the target puller for Shiraz Balolia had to contend with when Shiraz shot 17 consecutive x’s at 300y earlier in the month.

Y’all keep this club’s schedule on your calendar. There’s more than the best BBQ in the country in Memphis! And despite the 38 records, there will be plenty more of the same available the next time with your addition of one more point or one more x.

Frank B.

I have to say I totally agree with Frank's assessment of the Memphis Club. I am not a member nor have I shot a single match there. I have gone to a match as a visitor and plan on going back to shoot soon.

What makes that club a great place are the people. EVERYONE I came into contact with was nice, curteous and extremely helpful. I apologize for not remembering everyone's name but its a fault of mine but since then Russ and I have corresponded through emails and no one could ask for a better person to deal with. His whole personality and demeanor does him and the whole shooting sport justice and that he was modestly leaving out his accomplishments goes to show what kind of person he is.
