A friend of mine called me last nite and was wanting me to help him find out the value of this Colt 38 Auto. Anybody have a clue as to how much it might be worth? Would appreciate your help.

On one side it has April 20th 1897 September 9th 1902 the other side it has Colt 38 Automatic Rimless Smokeless.

It's worth ALOT!

I just parted with a Colt 1908 .32 ACP marked "US Property" with a manufacture date indicating it was made in June 1944, a date we all know well. It sold for $3,000, so I'd opine your buddies Colt is valued somewhere in that ballpark.

The guys on the Colt collector site would be the ones to ask.

O K Thanks Bro.

It looks like a late Model 1903 Pocket pistol.

According to my 10 year old Blue Book of Gun Values that pistol would be valued at around $5,000 if it were in 98% or higher condition. From your pictures I'd say that the gun would hold at least 80% value and that would make the gun valued at around $1250. The price would depend on the actual condition of the gun and who you were trying to sell it to.

A link to info about a 97% plus gun with pictures. If the information at that link is correct then based on the serial number of that gun it was probably manufactured around 1920. I would contact Colt and request a search on that serial number and see what information they have on it. Information like that can increase the value a gun.

A link to an in depth video review of the 1903.

If they “letter” these like the SAA’s it is money well spent. That’s even if it doesn’t have anything interesting to know about.
Buddy lettered both of his, one record was lost in a fire. The other was shipped to Leavenworth Ks, sold at local auction for a little over triple of what “Colt” guys offered for it.
The other brought more than double what was offered, appraised at.
Just saying.
