37th annual Groundhog Shoot

Known as the Hickory Groundhog Shoot. As mentioned Mr. Willis has held this event for a long time.
This year we be, as always, the first Saturday in April. 4/1/17.
Open Class and Factory Class. Factory class allows trigger work, bedding and shooter must use a bi pod. Custom class allows the of front and rear BR set up.
There is also a 500 yard egg shoot for bragging rights.
Prizes awarded for both classes 1st,2cd, and 3rd.
I own Larry's old business and sponsor the shoot each year. Last year we had folks come to shoot from as far away as Pennsylvania. Any inquiries you may have can be asked on our Facebook page.
Bulls Eye in Vale, N.C.
Hope to see you here!

Gettin' closer! We will have a great table of prizes to select from this year plus the usual food and fellowship.
Hopefully Mr.Joe will bust another egg this year.

Can anyone tell me where I can access the complete set of rules for the Hickory shoot? Are benches used?

Thanks

Shot this match for several years in the early 2000's. Great match....even popped an egg one year! I believe this match is fired from the prone...or at least it used to be shot from the prone!

Because of all the time that has gone by since most posts herein, can someone update it by telling us the distance, rules, who to contact, accommodations nearby, etc.

Who's Facebook page is the information on? The page is "bullseye sporting goods"

When and where do I show up Saturday 4/1? Is it the Will Hudson Rd address listed on the Facebook event? What time?

Edited because I found it on Facebook

Yes the Will Hudson Rd Address is the one you want. Best way to find us on facebook is bulls eye sporting goods in Vale NC. Thanks hollyspring for posting the rules - I couldn't find a picture from last year. My bad.
Had a Ruger rep there today as we sent an e-mail to the CEO. Apparently he reads all of them:cool:
Hoping for more cool prizes but anything will be appreciated.
Rule # 5 Beware of Philbeck.:) In any class.
Larry has installed a bench there so if you have a LEGITIMATE medical reason you are allowed to shoot from it. No real advantage from prone. Old, fat and worn out does not qualify as legitimate otherwise 50% ( including me ) would fire off that slab.:p
Every once and a while Larry throws folks a curve ball. My first time there ( I didn't shoot, sold t-shirts and observed )
was the 35th year. In honor of that he put the targets at odd distances like 120, 315, and 490. ( not exact but you get the idea) much like you would see actually hunting.
The normal relays are 100, 300 then 500 yards. That year, one relay as closest range, middle range and longest range, one shot each - 3 times. It truly confounded some of the team shooters and caused great anguish:eek: Still, it was fun to watch real shooters adapt and overcome. Scores weren't as high either. I believe he threw a curve ball on the 25th as well. Of course this year is April fools day so who knows. It will still be fun.

Hadn't missed one yet, so you betcha I'll be there. Looking forward to seeing some old and new friends.

See ya on April FOOLS DAY!!

1st practice day. Because of general life requirements:( I didn't get there till 2:30 pm. Wind sucked but I did manage some decent groups. Enough that I feel comfortable about not embarrassing myself - assuming I dope the scope the right way - geez. As I said, just enjoy being in a field of really great shooters. Even finishing last means something with this group under these conditions. My hands stink of copper killer and I'm tired.

Tomorrow is the last day to get dialed in, range closes in the afternoon and sign up begins. Its been a great week getting together with shooter from near and far, all sharing one common interest. Even if you dont shoot come check it out Saturday morning. Great people and a great time for all. And if you happen to see a little 11 month old boy wandering around feel free to return him to the guy with the 338 . Im sure someone can point him out. Good luck to all, thanks larry, mike and chad for all the work you guys put in!

No problem sir. You owe me for not complaining about the cannon after shooting 2 men down from you during practice.:)
I don't know which relays your in, I just picked one and got #17 lane A. You wont be on my left side for sure:cool:
Mr. Patton is trying the unthinkable, shooting a match that favors smaller calibers with a 338. The way it's shooting, I'd say not to bet against him.
