375 RUM ELR

Anyone here ever do a 375 RUM for ELR target work. Just wondering if there is anything to gain over my 338 EDGE at , say 2000 yards. I see that Berger has come out with 2 new .375 bullets, and there are a lot of other solids out there.

I did a search, and the only 375 thread I found was from 2012.

Thanks, Tod

Powder capacity and brass life is the shortcoming. I was thinking along the same lines two years ago. If you have the adjustment range in your scope and mounts to allow for the increased drop for the heavier bullets it may not be as much of a problem with non max loads. My go to load for my Edge and +P Edge was the 285 ELDM to help get a little more speed so I could save some elevation for longer ranges. I'm already dropping 105.5 grains of RE33 or 93 grains RE26 and its tough on primer pockets (Norma and Bertram brass). I can squeeze another grain in that case but my case life drops to 2 or 3 reloads. I don't think you would get the velocity you need out of that case with those heavy .375 bullets. Might be accurate, but you would need a ton more adjustment in your scope setup.

Well not for elr but have played with the 375 Ackley and the 338 Ackley .

I have a .338 Edge and a 37 XC. They are the right combination. The velocity drop with a .375 Edge would make it a second choice to the .338 Edge.

HMMM.....Using the Berger calc.....starting the edge with a 300 OTM at 2950 and the 375 with the new 407 @ 2750, the 375 is faster at 2000 yards by 140 FPS. (70 degrees, 1500 ft ele....everything the same)

Looks like the 375 is coming on strong at ELR and will make a bigger splash.

2750 for a 407 bullet may be very hard to come by.

True......but if I start at 2650 i am still nearly 90 FPS FASTER than the EDGE at 2950.....with a bigger splash.

Also, I found a 39 inch 1.75 down to 1.25 inch 8.25 twist tube for sale in the classifieds. Thinking 2750 should be do-able if I picked that up.

Tod.

Hornady has a 390 Gr. ATip that will ship soon if it hasn't already.
I was looking at both the 300 (33 cal) and 390 A-Tip. Not much of a gain over their Berger counterparts, but if they do not need to be trimmed or tipped they would be worth it!!

Best wishes with your project!

I may be pissing in the wind anyway. Shoot may well be canceled. Worst case (which isn't so bad) is that they have the shoot and I shoot my 14 pound Hunting EDGE in both classes. I'm already set up with everything I need and it shoots the 300 Hunting Hybrid at 2960 very, VERY well.... I have plenty of elevation adjustment. A little worried about the 22x on the top end being a little week. I guess I could buy the 0- 200 adjustable Valdada base and use one of my 12-42's.

Thanks guys,
Tod

did you ever get this going? I ordered a barrel to do a 375 RUM (might go improved) wanting to shoot those same A-tips. curious how it worked out for you.

I know someone who’s running a 375 rum
2800 with 390!a tips
Same guy over on long range hunter? That's what convinced me to order the barrel, Now I just need to decide if I am gonna go through the pain of custom dies to do the improved version or stick with standard. I have a really good feeling I'll be doing improved.
