358 Win vs 350 mag for 2022

I am going to start loading for my 350 rem mag and wanted to see what kind of real world results people are getting in 2022 using current powders, bullets,, and actual factory guns. I know the 350 mag thrives with heavier bullets (if they can fit), but I would hope to see marginal gains over my 358 rem 700 with a 20" barrel.
With my 358, I have achieved 2600fps with a 200 gr Hornaday interlock with Tac Powder.

Anyone get more impressive speed out of a 350 mag with a 200 gr bullet than the 2750 that looks to be the norm?
Of course I'd be happy to shoot a 250 gr bullet at 2600-2700 fps from the 350 mag, but curious if the larger capacity would end up getting me closer to 2900+ out of a 22" 673 barrel with a 200 gr bullet.

I don't expect to shoot either gun past 300 yards, and 35 cal doesn't naturally have high bcs.

Thinking it will depend on your magazine/throat length. I'm unfamiliar with 673s so have no idea if it's a 2.8" or longer action. Also the length imposed by the start of the rifling. The 350 Mag's case capacity is comparable to 35 Whelen, but not with the bullet bases way down in the boiler room. If you can long seat your bullets, Whelen ballistics could be a reality. I've just touched 3000fps with a 200gr. Hornady in my 22" Whelen with an absolute max load of PP2000MR but backed off for better brass life & accuracy. It's doubtful you can do that safely with a 2.800" OAL limit.

I hunted in NE PA for decades, & doubt if you'll need much more than the 358 Winchester gives you to 300 yds. with a pointed bullet.

I actually have 2 and the one I plan on loading for indeed has had the mag well opened past 2.800 "allegedly" per the previous owner.

Been shooting a Ruger mk II 77, with 22” barrel for years with 200 Barnes or Hornady’s at a little over 2900 fps with IMR3031 that has been very accurate. I have worked up to the 60 gr load that both Lee and Hodgdon list as max. Killed the crap out of deer and bear with this load. What a great load butt does buck some! Ok may a lot. I do sometimes load down a grain from their max for just deer. The book only says 2835 fps, chrono’d many time and it’s over 2900 in my rifle.

TAC never gave me the accuracy of 3031, killed to a little over 300 yds with the 350.

The Barns # 4 reloading manual has bullet data for a 20" 350 Rem Mag, I use that and my chronograph tells me its within 15 fps average.
They have Tac 64.0 gr max = 2943 fps 200 gr bullet. Chronographed at 2930 to 2940 in my rifle.
62 gr of Tac for the 225 gr Barns=2764 fps both loads at C O.A.L. of 2.800" This chronographed right at 2750 fps on my 20" Model 7. Also posted loads for bullets I've used up to tbe 280 Swift and 310 Woodleigh...but my model 7 is modified to take 2.910" COAL bullets out of the modified magazine and action.

I can’t even read half your post before my shoulder starts hurting!
Good luck with it!
I threaded the barrel and added a nice brake on mine...very easy on the shoulder, with lots of power in a short package...even added a tactical bolt knob...just in case.

I had both of those cartridges in a gun. The .358 was in a Ruger tang safety and the 350 Rem Mag was in 660 Rem. At the time I hunted exclusively in PA so both were ample for my type of shooting. Both guns were very accurate, if fact that little 660 shot 1/2 inch groups with factory ammo! If I were to choose an "all around gun" between the two I would probably go with the 350 rem. with a 22" or more barrel. That little 660 did produce a muzzle blast! Sort of wish I had kept that 660, my nephew begged me to sell it to him. Now they are in demand and there are not a lot of them. You probably should be a reloader for both of those cartridges, again my nod would go to the 350.

358, on a Savage, love the cartridge but dislike the barrel taper on this one, too heavy.
350RM Model Seven, not for casual plinking, sissies or faint of heart with full tilt loads. Better to shot standing than hunkered down on the bench. I would like this beautiful rig to find a new home.
35 Whelan, belongs to a buddy, built on a Savage. We have shot loads from this from mice to moose, jacketed and cast bullets. It’s a pretty versatile cartridge.

If I had a different tapered 358 barrel I imagine it would exhibit the same as the Whelan. In my findings, the 358 is a marvelous cast bullet size and a pleasure to work with.
