350 Legend barrel options?

Looking at putting together a 350 Legend on an Savage action for Iowa whitetail and general mucking about- considering barrel options.

I like the idea of using a .358 barrel for bullet selection but will probably stick with the .355 for simplicity but not 100% decided. Anyone running a .358?

Seems like 1:16 is the common twist but thinking just a bit faster might help with some heavies if I feel like trying casting and/or subs, maybe a 1:10?

Thinking around 18" for maneuverability and don't see much to gain going longer.

Unfortunately neither Criterion or Shilen make prefits for the Legend.

Any suggestions re barrel maker?

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Thanks, Matt.

You can run those .358 bullets through a .355 or .356 lee bullet sizing die. I have even run solid copper Barnes TTSX with success. The trouble with the Legend will be getting those .358s moving fast enough to achieve minimum expansion velocities at distance.

For savage pre-fits:
McGowen offers custom order 350L barrels in 14twist.
Preferred Barrel Blanks offers a 350L as well for about $360.
I wouldn't wait much longer if you plan on ordering and trying to use it this year since their lead times are 8-10 weeks.

Im working on load development for my 16" Ruger Ranch for Iowa's 2nd gun season in December.

Thanks for the replies.

Definitely leaning toward the standard 355 bore, good call on resizing bullets and while I don't plan to use factory ammo its nice to have the option.

Any concerns re a 1:10 being too fast?

Just to revisit- any reason not to go with a 1:10? Should stabilize the heavier bullets but is there any downside?

Possibly, if for any reason you ever want to cast your own and shoot lead bullets you will find 1-in-10 way too fast and the barrel will lead up. 1-in-16 is fine and typically with twist the least or slowest that will stabilize the bullet you intend to use will shoot more accurate too.
Definitely give Mr. Taylor a call for the best barrel and best price you can get.

Thanks for the reply. Will definitely be shooting cast but they will be heavy for caliber subsonic, probably in the 250-275gr range at around 1000-1040fps.
