,340 Hack

I have acquired a rifle that appears to have been made by, or perhaps for, Gary Hackney, by Matthews Guns Ltd, Dalton, GA.

The barrel is inscribed "340 Hack".

Is anyone familiar with this calibre? I can find nothing on the internet.

The caliber is probably .338

Get some cerrosafe and make a chamber cast. That'll tell you a lot.
Does the chamber have the cut for a belted magnum?
What's the bolt face diameter?

Since you're might not get any answers, the cerrosafe and cast the chamber... It's what a gunsmith would do and you can safely do it at home too.

Just youtube cerosafe chamber cast and watch a couple videos to get the best idea of how it's done.

I like this method....
and you can use a metal cream/milk dispenser with a short spout if you can find one or a like me a use a metal ladle crushed in a vice and handle bent down a little so I can get right over the chamber.
