338 saum/wsm information

I bought a medium length Borden action and intended to build a 6.5 saum but I think I'd prefer a 338 saum or a 338wsm for a hunting rifle. Looking for information from anyone that has built a 338 saum or 338 wsm. I contemplated the 338 rcm but I have alot of saum brass and the case capacity is 1% less and the wsm is 8% more than the rcm. Thanks in advance.

Somewhere along the line I stumbled upon a set of 338 WSM dies which resided on my shelf for several years before I decided to build a rifle for it. Originally I gave consideration to building this in a pistol length platform but I decided on a shorter barreled rifle instead. Set into a chassis system, the SA Rem 700 had a 22" barrel and was DBM fed which has a limit of 2.925" and allows for a tiny bit of maneuvering when feeding.

Reality dawns fairly quickly when you try to choose bullets which will not only perform on game but leave enough room in the case for sufficient powder to propel these bullets to the target at a velocity yielding enough energy. Forget the standard Target bullets from 250 grains and heavier as these will curtail your powder space far too much unless you choose to shoot them single shot. I started by testing the Barnes 185 gr. TTSX and the Nosler 210 grain Partition and never changed except for trying the 200 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. All have performed as required for hunting circumstances.

Go too long range hunting forums look in rifle and bullets I think or reloading guy has been playing with 338sherman short mag.
