338 Lapua

Hello everyone,

I’m sorry for kicking a dead horse on this subject but I am looking for insight.

I currently have a 338 lapua, with a 28 inch proof carbon barrel on a stiller action. I am currently loading up some 300 OTM bergers with N570. I am struggling to find a decent node/group. Anyone else have a similar set up and willing to share the load data?

Thanks so much!

I've put around 500 rounds through my 338LM(Christensen Arms MPR)and though I haven't tried N570 yet(have 5 lbs. of it sitting on the shelf, along with RL33,RL26,N170,etc.)my go to load(so far)is 88.5 grs. of H1000 behind the Berger 300 gr. OTM's with Federal 215M primers,.030" OTL,averaging 2735 fps out of a 27" barrel.Usually 3 shot groups are around 1/2"(if I do my part)and always 1" or less if I get sloppy.I'm looking forward to trying N570 myself so tagging in on your thread, but since I still have 15 lbs. of H1000 and it seems to work so well I can't force myself(lazy:D)to make the switch.

You put 500 rounds thru a 338 lapua and your still walkin around? You must be a tough hombre. Doug
Howdy Doug,

It whomps me a little, especially since I've been shooting it almost free recoil(just a little pressure into my pec). It's a pretty heavy rifle(NF 7-35 ATACR,adjustable bag rider,[TT Diamond set at 8 ozs.],etc.),being just over 14 lbs. and I weigh about 270 so I absorb it pretty well.Usually only shoot around 30-35 rounds per range session so it doesn't get a chance to beat me up too much.70 years old now so I'm still hangin' in there for an old geezer. It's my favorite shootin' iron and I can't seem to leave it home and shoot one of the 300WM's that are just collecting dust, there's just something about a 338LM that makes me feel warm and fuzzy.:D

Another big fan of Reloader 33 in the 338 Lapua. Last time I Chrono graphed extreme spread with the 300 berger was 7 fps. I've had little success replacing my supply of RL33. I have some N 570
I'll tap into when its gone. I've mentioned it before but for informal inexpensive shooting WC860 and a factory second 300 Nosler or Sierra works for me.

At the risk of being called for "piling on", I could have written this post almost verbatim. :):)

Hi Phil,

You helped me out a lot last year when we exchanged several e-mails about seating depth with the Berger 300 gr. OTM's,told me to try .015",.030",.045",and .060" OTL ,and then .005" OTL on either side of which worked out the best.I settled on .030" OTL behind 88.5 grs. of H1000 and it lays them right in there.Just for the hell of it I tried .060" OTL and it also produces 1/2" 3- shot groups(at 100 yds.).When I bought 100 rounds of Berger 300 gr. OTM factory ammo with the rifle they were right at .115" OTL in my chamber and also grouped a 1/2",I think those OTM's will shoot just about anywhere you seat them and they're the only bullet I've ever used, still have 1000 of them to shoot up!

Good guy right there fellas, will go out of his way to help you out.

Jeff
