The AW feels bulky and square in my hand. I have a AICS for my 308 and while I really like the stock it is just too square for me. When I walk around with it I use a bipod leg as a handle.
The AX has a 10rd mag and can be reloaded while in the rifle. The bipod is closer to the barrel if you do not use the spigot. The action is larger as is the bolt. While the AW system is strong enough the AX is stronger.
I have hunted with a Armalite AR-30 in 338lm and while I have never ran a mag dry, for me it would be easier to just carry two mags of the AX and have 20rds with.
I have switched to a rem700lh in 300wm built on a A4stock because my brother now uses my 338lm and I am left handed. When we go hunting I carry two 10rd mags and a 5rd mag. We came across two families of coyotes. The first group was slaughtered between 400 and 600yds. After it was done I had 15rds left and my brother had 4. He carries 10rds with him total just one five rd mag. The second group was in the 500 to 1,000 range when I lost sight of them from my position. My brother was out of ammo and I had one or two rds left. Final tally was 23 dogs shot and 33 or 34 rds fired. We never looked that closely but I am positive we shot some of the same dogs. Good day except we were deer hunting and on the way back to the car I did not see it but my brother did and he said this buck was huge. I think he was messing with me. Something like 99.99% of the time 5rds is 3 to 5 rounds more than needed so a 10rd mag is really not needed but it is super nice to have.
