338 lapua

Thinking about selling my SSG 69 P1 and buy a Rem 700 in 338 Lapua...........any suggestion?

Being quite familiar with this cartridge, I'm not fully satisfied by the price of components and the quality control of the ammo manufactured by Lapua. I do not care too much about the odd bolt face size it requires, either.
All in all, the .338 Rem Ultra Mag is a more balanced and affordable option.
JMHO...

One of my friends was looking all over Remington’s webpage and he could not find their 338 option any more. I have also heard that they stopped production. I do not know if that is true. I do not know your reason for wanting to get rid of your current rifle but Savage makes a 338LM as does Armalite. I currently have a AR30 in 338LM and it is a great shooter.

ABM, get a 300 rem ultra mag instead, more versatile larger range of bullets that are cheaper to buy, good nosler custom brass now availible, it will shoot 110 vmax's at over 4000fps or 180-200 grainers all with exceptional accuraccy.
ps i have a 338 lm for sale if your interested, buying a 300rum instead.

Regarding the so called "odd sized bolt face" of the Lapua, it is the same bolt face diameter as the .416 Rigby which has been around for a few years. Talk about odd, the RUMs are a copy of the wildcat Black Mesa Express chamberings albeit with a rebated rim to get them to fit a standard magnum bolt face.

Before you get huffy, I currently own a .300 RUM, a .338 RUM and a .416 Rigby.

So that said I consider the .338 RUM to be the better big game chambering, factory ammo available, brass is relatively inexpensive for the handloader, it produces at least 95% of the peformance of the Lapua and I consider it good to go in a 1.35" diameter two bolt lug receiver.

I do not consider the Lapua to be good to go in a 1.35" diameter two bolt lug receiver due to the larger diameter of the cartrdige leaving less metal in the barrel walls. Certainly nothing you'd want to load overly hot for.

Personnal opinion that, but over the years I've gotten more conservative.
