I picked up a slightly used Savage BA at a decent price with the thought of getting it hammering and moving it. Turns out that I'm getting attached to it. The issue was finding a good load that was as accurate as I wanted. I've tried H-1000, Retumbo, RL-33 and now RL-26. I finally settled on the Hornaday 270gr ELD for shooting paper & steel. H-1000, Retumbo, and RL-33 all gave decent accuracy but not what I was looking for. I ran a ladder test at 300 yds with RL-26 in .1 increments from 88grs to 89 grs. 88.5,6,7 went into a group that I would have liked. There was no velo gain above 88.7 grs and velo was 2800 fps. I zeroed at 100 yds and set the zero stop. (Athlon Ares BTR 4.5x27 MOA) 100yd group was sub 1/2 minute. Move to 300 yds and dialed 3 MOA. Center bull hits and again sub 1/2 moa. Finally what I've been chasing. H-1000 seems to be the go to powder but in this case RL-26 was about 1/2 minute better. It's worth a look if you're chasing accuracy in your 338 L.
