338 Edge barrel

If you where to build a 338 edge from scratch what barrel would you choose and what twist would it be.

I'm thinking a 30in finished Krieger Barrel with 6 flutes. I want somthing close to a sendero counter. I'm planning on shooting 300 SMK and possibly the 285 Hornady match bullets. I'm unsure on what twist barrel I need.

i am really interested in the Benchmark 3R barrels. i would go with either a 9, or 9.5 twist. i would go with a heavier barrel also, since heavy bullets are in the picture

I have a 338Lapua mag and it throws the 300gr SMK's just fine with a 1-10tw Schneider at 27"

My 338 Edge wears a 10 twist Broughton finished at 30" and it shoots the 300 gr SMKs just fine.

Thanks for the replies. What would be the most functional weight for a long range target/hunting rifle. According to Krieger a 30 in sendero 6 flutes will run about 5.25 pounds. Is this to light for a 338 edge?

I just received a Kreiger and a Rock Creek 338 barrel in ther last couple of weeks.
The Rock Creek is 9.4 twist and the Kreiger is 9.35 twist.
I called and told them one would be a 338 SnipeTac based on the 408 Chey-Tac case and Kreiger said go with the 9.35 for the 300's even though I will be pushing them hard.

If it were for a .338 Win Mag or any wildcat on H&H brass I would probably stop at 30"... Since you chose an Edge, why not try a 32 incher? You can still remove those extra inches, you just can't add them. As for the twist, 10" is plenty enough.

my 338 edge has a 28 inch barrel. It is a sendero contour and I think that is perfect. no flutes.

I also have a 9.5 twist becuase I am running the 300 grainers.

I have a benchmark barrel and it is a hammer, I love mine

Well I may be crazy but I have changed my mind about building a 338 edge and changed to 338 Lapua ;D. I spoke with the nice people at stiller the other day and I now have a TAC 338 action on order.

I built mine with a # 6 Kreiger , Fluted , 28 inches , DE Brake , 1-9.35 twist , seekins bt metal , Mcmillan HTG stock , rem 700 , jewell , and it shoots 300 gr pills just fine and recoil is about like a 30-06 with 165s . I want to try some 225 sst when it cools off alittle.
