Wich powder is better for barrel life vv n 570 or hogdon h1000. n570 gives more speed about 50 feet vith the same charge 94 grains but there is more dirt in the bore ?

Heat is what causes barrel throats to erode. The 500 series of V.V powders is the high energy version of their 100 series. More energy equals more heat. These powders and the Reloder series are both double based powders, meaning they have been treated twice with nitroglycerin, giving them more energy. Unfortunately they are also more sensitive to temperature variations, for this reason, I try to use Hodgdon's Extreme line of single based powders, designed to be temp. insensitive. I give up a little muzzle velocity in exchange for very consistent long range performance.

Hodgdon Retumbo would be another good choice in that cartridge with bullets of 225 GR and up.. you will probably = vv n 570 speed.
