30x47L ???

anybody neck the 6.5x47L case up to 30 cal with no changes and shoot the 115-118 gr custom match bullets in 300-400 yard score matches,,,,at 300 yards the 30 cal holes are much easier to see than the 6mm and at 400 I am not sure I could see the 6mm holes at all and wonder if at 400 yards the 30x47L would hold up better in the wind than the 30BR,,

anybody shoot the 30 BR or the 30x47L at 400 yards with the good 115-118 gr bullets??

I acquired a rifle that was made up in the 1980s as a hunter class bench rifle in 30x47. It is the 300 Savage case with the shoulder pushed back 10 thousands inch but case left the same over all length. It is a bug hole shooter at 100 even with hunting bullets. I shoot 125 Nosler BTs at 2850 fps and mainly use it to shoot deer these days. Do not see why you could not duplicate this round with your suggestion.

I just had a barrel chambered for the 30x47 by Bob Green. He has the reamer. I bought a "lightly used" 30br barrel and found it had a long freebore so I sent it to Bob for the new chamber. I thought the 30x47 sounded interesting. Like 2506 mentioned, it was used in Hunter Benchrest and some other disciplines. I haven't shot it yet. Eddie Harren was very kind and sent me some old Precision Rifleman magazines that have a bunch of load info for it. Thanks again, Eddie! I'll send you pics of the info if you want it. Josh

please PM me any and all info you would like to share,,

I am considering the 30 cal only to be able to maybe see the holes better,,and need info to decide if a 30x47 or some such would be any better at 400 yards than a straight 30BR..

I'll be shooting some 116 customs but I'm also planning to try some 125 Sierra and Speers. I don't think they'll fly as well as the 105s in a 6br but I'm going to play with it and see how it does. I'll be shooting it from 1-300 yards. Here are 2 reports. I'll pm some more.

These are pretty common at the PA groundhog matches I sometimes go to. St Thomas shoots 200, 300 and 400yds and these do well there.
