Thinking about this for hunting. Does anyone have any experince or input . Thinking maby 14 twist so I could use up to 150 gr.

I have a 30X47 HBR that is made on the 300 Savage case. It was made in the early 1980's as a hunter class bench rifle. It is a Ruger 77 and I don't know what make barrel it has on it but it is a heavy tapered target CM 25 inch barrel 12 twist. I got this rifle from a widow that was getting rid of all her husbands stuff 20 year's after he had died. He had just had this rifle made and had shot it less than 50 times when he died. It is a real tack driver. I have been using it to deer hunt with some. It is easy to load for. All you do it put 42 grs. IMR 4895 into a case, this is all you can get into a case. Then seat a 125 to a 168 gr bullet and it will shoot them in the same hole at 100 yards. I have used Berger 155 VLD's and Sierra 150's and Nosler 125 ballistic tips to kill deer. They all did the trick but the 125 Nosler BT is the one I am going to stick with. I have used this bullet in my 308 also at 3050 fps and have killed around 15 deer with this bullet between the two rifles and have never had a deer take a step after being hit. The deer shot with the 155 VLD and 150 Sierra 2750 fps all made a mad dash about 50 yards before they went down. My load for the 125 BT pushes it 2850 fps and with a 3 inch high zero at 100 yards it is 5 1/2 inches low at 300 yards. I killed a 180 pound 9 point buck with this load and rifle this year. I also killed a cull cow horn and a doe with it this year. The cases are not hard to form from 300 Savage but you will have to turn the necks if you use 308 Win. cases. Both cases hold the same amount of powder. Hope this helps you.

Necking up the Lapua 6.5 x 47 is a breeze. I turned the necks for a .331 tightneck reamer and sent the cases to Dave Kiff for the reamer. So easy a cavewoman can do it.

There are many different cartidges in 6.5X47... I assume you mean the 6.5X47 Lapua?

This is actually a very nice cartridge. One of our local gunsmiths and 30 cal barrel makers Mick McPhee is shooting a 30X47Lapua and he shot a perfect score with it in the Fall 300M ISSF match here. He is using 155 Lapua bullets, but the 155.5 Bergers look very promising indeed.

When you had the reamer made did you send the cases with a bullet seated or did you specify what bullet you would be using? I have a 700 that has been trued and has a Jewell HVR trigger right now it has a custom barrel in .308 that I have been using for deer. But this summer got a Leupold hunter class scope for a steal on ebay so I thought what the heck all I need is another barrel and an HBR stock to shoot the IBS hunter matches with. then when deer season comes I switch stocks and trigger springs and I'm good to go. Or I could have my barrel set back but it's already short a 20" 14T Kostyshyn Rem varmint taper. I was thinking to shoot 125 Ballistic tips at deer and Bib 118' 7 or 10og what ever would be a better match for the throat. If dave already has a print with the proper throat for the bullets I want to use that would be great.

The 6.5 x 47 LAPUA necked up to 30 caliber is no different than the host of wildcats that existed prior to that particular cartridge being introduced. Any of the 46mm, 47mm, 48mm and 49mm wildcats will duplicate it. The only difference is the higher quality brass. Reamers for these different wildcats abound.

The 30x47 HBR mentioned by 2506 is one of the 47mm wildcats. You'll not improve on it in any way by starting with the 6.5 x 47 brass. The only thing that will be different is the name.

Obtunded.
I have a 30x47 Lapua reamer from Dave Kiff, based on the 6.5x47 Lapua case)that I will be chambering up on a Gaillard 14 twist HV barrel on my Nesika K and would appreciate any loads you can share from your fellow shooter Mick. I plan to try Berger 125FB and Berger 155VLD's. Send me a private message if you prefer.
Thanks and regards,
Tom.

With mine on the 300 Savage case you can't get too much IMR 4895 or Varget in the case to be over loaded. My load for 125 through 155's is 42 grs IMR 4895. That is all you can get into a case and still be able to seat the bullet. 125's 2850 fps, 155's 2750 fps. If you can hold it they all go into the same hole at 100.
