When seating Hornady 110gr VMAX bullets my Redding Type S Match die leaves a fine ring around the bullet. It is enough to feel it with my fingernail. There is no excessive (or unusual) force required to seat them. It only occurs on these bullets and no other makes. It happens on every Hornady every time. The accuracy is fine but I know this is not acceptable having that mark. Thanks for any help.

M-61,

I suggest you take out your seater stem and fit it to the tip of the projectile. Could be just the ogive profile is not quite hybrid-like! Maybe a little re-contouring is all you need...

Just a thought.

Thank you for using Redding Reloading Equipment. Redding's Competition Seating dies are equipped with a seat stem for a tangent ogive bullet. When seating a VLD (secant ogive) bullet it may leave a ring on the ogive or you may not be able to seat the bullet deep enough. This is ring is due to the mismatch in angles between the ogive and seat stem. The ring is purely cosmetic and will not effect accuracy.

For reloaders who wish to eliminate this ring, Redding makes a VLD seat stem for the Competition Seating die. VLD seat stems are available thru Sinclair International, Precision Reloading and Gunstop reloading supplies.

The 30 BR uses 30 Cal standard length VLD Seat Stem part #55730.

The above answer from Redding took 45 minutes! I call that good , great customer service.
