30BR twist rate wisdom needed

I don't shoot BR competition. I have an Encore that I shoot 22 and 6MM BR with and want to add a 30 BR barrel for 110 to 125 grain bullets. It will be used for informal BR matches, ground hogs, crows and just paper punching for fun. I don't need to buy the 118 Bibbs to split hairs, the Nosler BT's will be just fine.

What twist rate should I get when I order this barrel for its intended purposes?

Thanks,
Bruce

If I was going to shoot the 125 Nosler Ballistic Tips in a 30 br, I think a 1 in 18 would be a good choice for that ratty ole Encore :)

My 30BR 18 twist shoots 110gr,,my 17 twist 30BR shoots 118,,if I were to shoot 125gr I would look for a 15-16 twist ??

The 17 will work fine and the 18 probably too, although I've never tried it. Randy Robinette,Bib Bullets) may post on this and will tell you that the short bullets work very well in a 19 twist.

I went the other way for my fun 30 BR.
I went for a Full Bore/F class twist barrel so I can shoot a lot larger range of projectiles in my 30 BR
I went for a common 1:13 twist
It will shoot all the ones you want- plus it will also shoot all the 150-168 HPBT match projectiles as well
So you have a wider range of projectiles to see what is accurate in your rifle
I have found that until you get to the really heavy projectiles the 30 BR is not that far behind the 308 using a heap less powder and a heap less recoil.
Doing this enables you to play like you want to and have fun like you want to but all try Met Sillouette and 3 position etc etc
and
using something like a 150 gameking you can keep the freezer full

all a bonus as I see it

but it's your call
for a fun rifle I'd be more inclined to go for a faster twist as it includes more projectile in your available selection than a slower twist does-
For a fun rifle to my way of thinking it's better to find a load that uses an off the shelf projectile rather than a custom as supply and fun can be garranteed.

upto you
What neck diameter have you chosen?? are you going for a turned neck?

I'll probably do a minimum turned neck since I have all the expensive stuff to turn them.

Are you saying that you can shoot the 110-125 grain bullets AND the 150-168's out of a 13 twist and all is good and happy in ballistics land?

Shoot a 1-14 and be happy, you'll have to check with your barrel maker about the No Turn option, most 30br require neck turning.

I made up a 30br on a 10 twist because I had one on hand. It shoots everything I have put in it. I had PTG make me a reamer with a no turn neck .333 and .25 free bore. This reamer was made for 125 Nosler Bal Tip bullets. One of these days I will do a 1-14 twist but for now the 10 twist shoots everything in .2 and .3 Ross
