30br load development

So, I feel like I’m missing somthing here. I feel like I remember seeing somthing from Randy Robinette on here for how to start load development for the 30BR. And I can’t find it. I’ve read through the 30BR cartridge guide several times.

I’ve got some 112 hottenstien and 112 barts. With VV- N130 and LT-30.

After fire-forming I figure I’d start load development with a jam and .004 neck tension. Once I find a node, mess with seating depth and then neck tension? Does this sound right?

Sorry for all the 30BR newb questions.

Sounds perfect.
I use .002 tension, but as usual the barrel will tell you. The nice thing is the 30 BR is the least temperamental cartridge I have ever worked with. Wide powder node, wide seating node, they just shoot. Easy-peasy!

I'm new to the 30 br myself, but have been working on loads for a few months and my best one so far is 112 barts,34 gr.LT30. .004 neck tension and .004 into the lands..but that's in my rifle Your's may not like . I've had good groups fireforming brass with benchmark as well.

The guidance in Randy's post that Al linked above is all you need. Just wanted to post a conversation I had with Randy when I first developed a load with his 118 bullets. To paraphrase, Randy told me to 'fill the case with as much H4198 as it would hold, and seat the bullet to 20 thousandths jam'. He said 'if that wouldn't shoot, there's something wrong with your rifle!' (grin). Again, refer to his actual guidance in the referenced post.

Agree with other posters. The 30 BR was the easiest cartridge to tune I've ever experienced. Good luck and enjoy!!
