30BR ACCURACY @ LONGER DISTANCE

I had the same question in mind. Look at the Tackdriver results of you have not already. It is shot at 300. Some of the guys shot 30br. I think the group leader was actually shooting a 30br variant.

I have won multiple matches at 500 yards against all the various 6's with my 30 br. Good conditions it's just a 6ppc with fat bullets. Oh, I have won lots of 500 yd matches with a 6PPC. You don't win with "A GUN".
That's exactly what I was eluding to Bro.

I had a 30 BRX reamer for a while, sold it to someone here.
Had a 15 twist , 7 groove Brux that was amazing (for me) at 600 yds with 125 SMK when the wind was calm.
I blame the light bullet but my wind skills still arent that great.

My best barrel is an eighteen twist Broughton with around 7000 rounds on it. You might get seasick looking in it with a borescope but it still shoots great. Up until this point its been 90% 116 Eubers. I will soon be moving to Barts 112s. 30BRX would be great I think.

I've only ever shot cast bullets out the 30BR.
We shot them at 300 for fun as our registered matches are only up to 200 yards.

With a 1-12 twist and 200g bullet @ 2000fps 2" ten shot groups were common. Some much under but wind was the killer on our slow bullets...

Will share an old experience with the 30BR. First time I ever shot the Bud Pryor 100/200/300 match was also the first time I had ever shot the 30BR at 300 yards. "Humble Henry" and I were traveling to the big shoots together and we made sure to get to the range early so we could practice at 300 yards. The 6PPC shooters were still insisting that the 30BR was just good for 100 and marginal at 200 but would be out of gas for 300 at that time. When we got our chance to shoot the 300 yard targets we got our flags all set up and when allowed to commence firing shot a few sighters to figure the come up, etc. Once on target I shot a 5 shot group, four of them could be covered with my thumbnail and the fifth was just out. I just smiled and told Henry that I thought we would be OK at 300.

Outstanding info. Thanks for sharing that. Was kind of expecting some good reports.

The 30s didn’t fair very well in group at the Tac Driver. Wayne Francis did win the score portion and of the Tac Driver With his version of a 30 caliber. However group was won with a 6PPC.

Bill, a 30 BR at 300 has the same accuracy potential as a 6PPC at 300. The difference in the two would be which shooter has the best handle on the conditions.

I still think 300 is in “short range Benchrest“ territory, in that a good shooter can still get a precision read on his flags. That means the best bet is to use the most accurate rifle that is legal for the Match.

I would feel safe in saying that at any 300 yard Group Match, a 6 PPC will dominate. While higher BC combinations that are used in the BR variants might be better out further, they simply do not have the agging capability 6PPC or a 30BR.

But then, that takes us back o that whole condition reading thing.

A note about the Tack Driver. When I got home, I looked at all of my targets. In group, I started analyzing my score targets measuring each missed shot off of the center of the 10 ring and discovered that I actually shot better groups in the score portion than I did the group portion., if those five shots were overlayed. The majority of the “9’s” were just outside the 1” mothball. Two of them would have been sold .800 groups Which was pretty darned competitive.
