.308 win. Match Chamber ?

Hi folk's,My smith is chambering a new rifle for me,and he suggested .308 Win. match .My question is will my current die, redding FL Bushing,S die)be correct for the job,or do you suggest something else?

There are a number of 308 chamber dimentions. The two primary match chambers that come to mind are the 95 Palma chamber and the Bisley,150 rule) chamber. I beleive Dave Kiff makes just a straight match reamer and a hunting rifle chamber. The areas of concern are the: web, neck, and throat dimentions. Shooters loading tight chambers may have to use special small base dies. Shooters shooting tight neck chambers may have to neck turn brass. Shooters shooting long VLD bullets may have to re-throat their chamber. The throat diameter on a hunting rifle chamber will normally be .310 the normal throat in a match chamber will be .3085. There can be many other varriables.

rustystud basically filled in the blanks. I use a 308 Obermeyer w/ 0.333" tight neck. With this chambering I use a std RCBS FL 308 sizing die with the smaller expanded,270) just to punch out primers. The die itself sizes the neck enough for my Benchrest applications. It basically sizes the neck to 0.329". I also use Lapua 308 W brass since it matches the 308 OBM reamer better than US made brass.

If your smith has a reamer print see if you can get a copy. Then choose the brass that best fits the chamber. The big difference between lapua and other 308 brass is it measures 0.470 at the web compared to 0.468"

If you 'smith is using a 95 Palma reamer, your dies will work fine. I have a custom rig with a 95 Palma chamber and everything fits like it should.
