308 Win chambering choice

I am looking at building a 308 Win for a local gun club shooting match. I am looking at taking one of my Dashers and changing the barrel out with a Northland remage barrels or a Shilen for my Savage. Northland offers a few different chamberings.

Would someone help me figure out which one to go with. I would like to run either 185gr or heavier bullet if possible.

Thanks everyone

I am kinda in the market for the same thing. Don’t want the Palma chamber, but I have lots of 155’s, 175’s & 185’s. I’m think the M118LR chamber would be the best for that.

It is basically a bench rest for score type match. The range we are shooting the match at has weird winds and with this match the heavier the better.

Also I bought a bunch of the Hornady 174gr VT bullets that have great BC but are very long.

This is how I ordered my barrel from northland about a month ago......I have a 700 long action and ordered an 8" twist with a finished length of 28" and it has the f/tr chamber. What this means is that I can load 200+ grain bullets long and run in the magazine. The f/tr chamber has a long freebore to allow long and heavy bullets.

There is no reason why you couldn't use a 2013 F-TR chamber . It would fully accommodate the 185gr. Berger and also the 200gr. Hybrid Target , or 200.20x Berger .
I would speculate that the majority of "F"-Class shooters use the 2013 F-TR chamber in their rifles . The lighter and shorter bullets can be used also , just understanding they would be "jumped" , and there would require some testing to find the best seating depths .

What I use for my practice gun. Lapua Cases, Varget - 43.5 grs , 200.20X bullets. Around 2650 FPS. Work up!

185’s will fly just fine out of a 12 twist, I shot them out of a 13 twist but it was a 30” barrel.
Obermeyer is a great choice for 185 and lighter bullets and Marty said.

James at NSS will guide you properly if you ask him. I ordered a criterion 28" in 1:10 form him for my savage action. FTR reamer for 185s and 200.20x.
