308 target rifle

I bought a Target rifle from an estate sale It has a 30" SS 308 1.350 diameter barrel, I really can't tell the trigger or the stock, but it lets off at 1# and the stock is very well fitted also built on a mauser action. Haven't had the stock off the action yet., But planning to. Is there any markings on the barrel to determine the make of the barrel that will identify the maker? It was sold to a fellow in Kentucky who traded me for it so I have no knowledge what so ever, niether did the fellow I got it from. It is atleast 20-30 pounds. I bought it as it was a very good deal. haven't had a chance to shoot it with all this white stuff that fell here in delaware, something we don't see often. here is a picture of it.

Most Smiths stamp the barrel just ahead of the action.
NOW THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! Look to see if the neck diameter is stamped on the barrel. If not make sure you know what it is before firing even one round. Most of the time a non necked turned round won't even chamber in a tight neck, but if it would it could be catastrophic.

When you ever question a chamber s chamber cast is what I do. use cerro safe it is a low melting point metal. I don't have a bore scope and I can cast the chamber and throat to see what the condition is. It's easer to do by pulling the barrel but it can be done in the action. If you co it in the action you have to be carefull as to where the metal goes when pouring the cast.
