308 sub sonic ?

just a idea what would be a good to fair load for a bolt and a ar-10 using a 150 g 30-30 bullit shooting 100 to 150 yards. i have heard of someone useing it in a 30-06 but did not get info on load wanting to see if i can get the noice down some. have found some in store and a friend bought the only box and works fair but all i was given was 3. what are your thoughts on this any info would be nice thanks in advance.

depending on your barrel length, start in at about 9.2 grains of Trail Boss.
it wont cycle the -10 even with the can screwed on though.
9.8 grs works really well with a 175 SMK in my rifle.

I use 10.8 of TB with a 180 gr. SMK. Quiet enough to shoot in the basement and out the open door w/o my can! Velocity is 1,030 fps with an 18" bbl. in a bolt rifle, 8 twist.

thanks to all looks like i need a bottle of trail boss and some more points will try and see what happends is there any load data in books all i could find was for single shot pistol in sierras load book and my bolt is a rem. 5-r off the sheft only thing i changed is went with timmey trigger.

I tried some 223 with tightgroup yesterday. 3.0 grains of that stuff was difficult to measure out lol. Worked well though. I may try subsonic in my 308.

Google C.E.Harris "the load". Article talks about use of Alliant flake powders (RD, Unique,2400) in reduced loads. Also mentions 4198,& 4227. Also check Lymans #44 it may have something.
