.308 Start loads with VV N150

Trying to do some new load development with a new powder for me. I will be using VV N150 and trying to see if anybody out there has a start load for the following;

.308
Berger 200.20X bullet
Berger 210 bullet
using Lapua Palma brass
CCI BR4
1-10 Brux 28" barrel

Any help would be appreciated

I run the 200.20Xs in a 28" Bartlein, from a .180fb chamber. Assuming you're running a .170fb+, I'd probably start at 43.6gr and work up to 45gr, at .010" off.

I settled at 44.7gr @ 2615-2630FPS depending on temps. Most people seem to tune in from 44-44.5gr; I guess my lot of N150 is slower.

Stupid accurate.

A 200.20X at .010" off seems to universally shoot well off the three barrels I've had chambered from this reamer. Really just a matter of finding a powder/charge it likes.

Can't help ya on the 210s, but I'd guess they're right around the same area.

Great! thanks Mike, yes i have a .170 and this is a start because I had no idea where to start. I was going to start at 42 and work up hehe. that would have been a waste of time and bullets down the barrel.

I haven’t tested the latest lots of N150. The lots from 2015 that are still out there shoot at 44.3 jumping 10 to 15. I’ve heard from another shooter that the 2018 lot he has is about 30 FPS faster, that would probably put you closer to 44.0

I know 2 other guys (including the guy who won the national championship) who found loads at 44.3.

I just tested my new barrel with 44.3 jumping 10. Shot pretty well testing at 600 last week

The one I pulled at the bottom opens the vertical up to 2.3" at 600 yds, it's under an inch and a half "if you don't count the flyer".

Shooting the 200.20x at around 2645 from a 30" barrel.

I know from my testing in my last barrel it seemed to shoot really well from 44.1 all the way to 44.7, but the more matches I shot and fiddled with it it seemed to want to shoot better with a little less.

The burn rate charts that show this powder in the range of H4350 are wrong, at least by weight. By volume then maybe. It's a bulky powder and takes a lot of room in the case, with a 170FB you'll have a case full somewhere around 44.5 to 44.7.

Anyone find shooting N150 with 200.20x loads seems to yield more powder residue and carbon fouling in theur barrels verses n140 or varget 20x loads.

It would be awfully hard to have more carbon fouling than Varget in a .308...

If there is more carbon fouling than Varget, it seemingly hasn't stopped multiple people from winning national and state championships with it.
